Yoosof Farah's Top Five EPL Goals: Matchday 18

Yoosof FarahDec 22, 2008

Here are my top five goals from this weekend's action in the Barclay's Premier League:

5) Matthew Taylor, Bolton Wanderers

A decent goal right from the start to get the ball rolling on what become a good game.

49 seconds in and the Bolton faithful already had their first goal of the match. Following Kevin Davies' flick-on, Matt Taylor cleverly clipped the ball over his marker Herman Hreidarsson before hammering a shot past Calamity James, to open the scoring against his former club.

4) Djibril Cisse, Sunderland

The game was killed off when Kenwyne Jones scored Sunderland's third six minutes from time. But seeing his fellow Frenchman, and his strike partner, both get on the scoresheet, Djibril Cisse decided he wanted in on the action also.

And so he did in injury time. The striker broke clear before expertly drilling a fierce low drive into the far corner, past the once again helpless Boaz Myhill.

3) Robbie Keane, Liverpool

Robbie Keane's fantastic goal to equalise for Liverpool was exactly the reason why Rafael Benitez decided to invest £20m in the Republic of Ireland international.

After racing onto a long ball out of defence from Daniel Agger, Keane gained half a yard on the Arsenal defence, and showed superb technique to fire an unstoppable shot beyond goalkeeper Manuel Almunia.

2) Robin Van Persie, Arsenal

It was a brilliant game with two magnificent goals. Some might disagree, and I'm sure Robbie Keane himself would, but I just have to place Robin Van Persie's opener for Arsenal above the equaliser for Liverpool.

It was a fantastic goal from the flying Dutchman. After collecting Samir Nasri's sublime pass from the halfway line on his chest, Van Persie took the ball away from Jamie Carragher with his left foot before burying it beyond the helpless Jose Reina with his right.

A great goal, and one that, only just, deserves to be placed ahead of Robbie Keane's equaliser for Liverpool.

1) Steed Malbranque, Sunderland

Now I am sure no one can disagree with me on this one. There have been some great goals in the EPL this weekend, but none compare to Steed Malbranque's absolute beauty for Sunderland.

The Frenchman opened the scoring for the Black Cats with a brilliant strike from 25 yards. After being found in good space by Danny Collins, the Frenchman calmly picked his spot before expertly clipping a beautiful shot past Boaz Myhill, who had no chance of saving it.

So there you have it, from first minute openers to last minute killers, from London to Merseyside, and from the TV to my laptop, here are Yoosof Farah's top five goals from all the weekend's action in the Barclay's Premier League.
