Will Puff Daddy's Son Justin Have Better Collegiate Career Than Lil Romeo?
Sean “Diddy” Combs has yet another thing to brag about.
The hip-hop mogul worth half a billion dollars has made a living off boosting about all of his fast cars, pretty women and endless stacks of money.
Now, he can brag about his football-playing son. Justin Combs has announced he will be attending UCLA on a full scholarship to play cornerback at Westwood.
The 5'9" speedster from Iona Prep in New York decided on the Bruins over Wyoming, Virginia and Illinois.
Of course, Diddy was available for comment as soon as the announcement was made:
"As a parent, today is one of the proudest moments of my life. This is everything a father could want for his son, for him to excel at what he loves to do and is truly passionate about.
"
That’s all fine and dandy…but is he going to be better than Master P’s son, Lil Romeo, aka Percy Miller? The former teen heartthrob went to USC on a basketball scholarship expecting to redefine the sport. Instead, he played a grand total of 19 minutes in two years before deciding to call it quits.
In other words, he was a colossal bust that some feel was only awarded a scholarship because of his friendship with DeMar Derozan, which led to the future NBA lottery pick coming to the Trojans.
That’s the ceiling Combs will be dealing with. I don’t understand why the Bruins even needed to give him a scholarship when you look at the financial aspect of it courtesy of CNBC sport’s business reporter Darren Rovell:
That is simply not fair. When you think about how long it takes to pay off your student loans and…sorry, that’s a whole different can of worms.
For now, I think it’s safe to say that Combs is going to have a much better collegiate career than his rapper-son counterpart. The bar is set so low; he won’t have to try very hard. Considering there were actually other schools jockeying for him, Combs isn’t going to be some sort of sideshow.
With the Bruins set to begin a new era with the firing of coach Rick Neuheisel, maybe they can sell the program with their most famous new recruit. He certainly won’t be shy around the cameras.
