Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
If the coin toss in overtime hitting linebacker Brian Urlacher on the helmet, only to come up heads and award the Bears the ball to start overtime, didn't make you laugh out loud...
Then you have probably come to expect nonsense luck from these Chicago Bears.
On Monday night, in front of nation watching from a warmer place than the thousands that packed Soldier Field, the Bears took a huge step towards backing into a playoff spot.
The Bears defense, as it has for a large part of this season, carried the team through complete ineptitude from the offense. Danieal Manning continued to make Devin Hester's evolution into a wide receiver possible by changing the game with his defense and kickoff returns.
Quarterback Kyle Orton was in the giving mood a few days early, laying a number of passes into the hands of Packer defenders that were dropped. Two passes weren't dropped, as Orton showed again that he has a ways to go to become a franchise quarterback.
For most of the game, the Bears only consistent weapon this season, rookie phenom Matt Forte, was silenced by a Packers defense that had looked foolishly weak for a month. The Bears receivers continued to show an impressive ability to drop easy passes, and the offensive line again allowed an inconsistent pass rush to flush Orton from the pocket.
The Packers were a bad team coming into this game. They had not played well since their last game against the Bears, and are out of the playoff picture. They had nothing to play for but rivalry.
The Bears had everything to play for this evening. They needed to win the lotto and have four teams lose this weekend, and they got all four numbers to match. This was the Bears chance, on a national stage, to prove that they want in to the postseason.
In the fourth quarter, Forte and his Bears showed what they were made of. After being dominated and looking clueless for 50 minutes, the Bears pulled a win out of the frozen air on the lakefront.
Maybe karma is swinging in the Bears favor. After playing well enough to win against good teams like the Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons, the Bears might have finally picked up a win in a game they should have lost.
Now the Vikings get to play the defending champion New York Giants.
And the Bears go to Houston to play the Texans.
Where will karma align herself in six days?
