NBA Free Agents 2011: 5 Players That May Sign with the Portland Trailblazers
The NBA lockout is finally over, and free agency is set to start in only a matter of weeks.
This year's free agent class is lacking in stars, but it makes up for the shortage of star talent with solid role players who could make an impact off the bench or in certain roles.
There are also some quality starting players who could be the final piece a team needs to propel it to title contention.
The Portland Trailblazers will be looking for scoring and big-man production in this year's free agency, and here are the top players to fill that role.
Jamal Crawford
1 of 5Jamal Crawford can come in and replace Brandon Roy (who will probably be cut with the amnesty clause) and also provide much needed outside shooting off the bench.
The team really struggled from outside last year, but it has already added a consistent option from outside in Raymond Felton, and Jamal Crawford can only help.
He is also an outstanding playmaker who can come up big in the clutch, which will help ease the pain of losing Roy due to knee injuries.
Crawford has already said that LaMarcus Aldridge's interest in playing with him is mutual, so this is a very likely signing.
Carl Landry
2 of 5Carl Landry will provide much needed depth at the power forward position.
Last year, LaMarcus Aldridge was ranked in the Top 10 in minutes per game, playing almost 40 minutes a game!
They need to keep him fresh by signing a decent option off the bench—but Landry can be more than that.
His rebounding numbers are modest, but that is not what they need with Gerald Wallace, Marcus Camby and Greg Oden on the floor.
Landry needs to score down low and play tough all the time.
He has shown in the last two years that he can do that, and he was even able to almost mask the loss of All-Start power forward David West last year for the Hornets.
Landry has already stated that he would be a good fit in Portland, and he even has Aldridge's support.
Sooner or later, the Blazers will need to listen to Aldridge's interests, so keep an eye out for both Landry and Crawford to soon be Blazers.
Samuel Dalembert
3 of 5Samuel Dalembert is a really good insurance policy to have on Greg Oden and Marcus Camby, who seem to never be healthy.
Dalembert has made a career out of tough play down low and great low-post defense. That is what Portland desperately needs.
Even though the Trailblazers already have the talent to do that down low, that talent can't seem to find its way onto the court.
Dalembert would be a great bench big man who can give Camby resting time for those old legs and fill in whenever Oden has his yearly injury.
All he would have to do is keep up the dependable numbers that he has been putting up throughout his career, and that's good enough.
Kris Humphries
4 of 5Kris Humphries had a very respectable season last year, putting up a double-double for the season—something none of Portland's big men could do last year, except LaMarcus Aldridge, who averaged 21 points per game to go along with 11 rebounds a game after Roy went down (but those weren't season numbers).
Humphries would be needed for tough play and his decent scoring down low, but most importantly, to crash the boards.
Much like Carl Landry, he could be a great bench option to give Aldridge some rest.
Who knows? The whole divorce thing might have gotten to him, and he might not repeat his numbers from last year, or maybe his stats were inflated because he was playing in his contract year.
One thing that can't be denied is that he still showed the talent to put up those numbers; all he needs now is a little consistency.
Glen Davis
5 of 5Glen "Big Baby" Davis is coming off his best professional year and will probably come at a hefty asking price.
If Portland could somehow get him for the MLE, he would be a good steal for the team.
He brings exactly what Carl Landry would bring to the team: a good scorer down low who can play tough and give Aldridge resting time.
The good thing about Davis is he has size, something that Landry doesn't necessarily have.
Although Davis' rebounding numbers aren't outstanding, they're decent for a bench player, and he could be the player that Portland needs to help push it into the promised land.
Probably not, but you never know.
