NBA Trade Rumors: Who Will Indiana Pacers Target at Power Forward?
One of the biggest areas the Indiana Pacers need to address as the 2011-12 season gets underway on Christmas is their power forward spot, which currently sports Tyler Hansbrough and Josh McRoberts.
As Mike Wells of The Indianapolis Star points out, the Pacers made a call to the Utah Jazz before the draft inquiring about forward Paul Millsap.
It's expected that they will make another call in hopes of landing the 26-year-old, who averaged 17.3 points and 7.6 rebounds last season in his fifth year in the league.
The Jazz, of course, just drafted former Kentucky forward Enes Kanter at No. 3 overall in the 2011 NBA Draft and picked up Derrick Favors from the New Jersey Nets in the Deron Williams trade last season.
The thinking is that the Pacers would gladly give up a draft pick given their significant cap space to solve their power forward problem.
The Pacers could also go for bigger targets in free agency such as David West, Nene Hilario and Carl Landry, which I'm guessing would be their first step as they have some money to spend.
One way or another, it's hard to envision the Pacers not landing one of these guys, because they are very good position to make some moves.
The Pacers went 37-45 last season, but they did show some strides with the emergence of point guard Darren Collison and center Roy Hibbert.
Even with their record, the Pacers actually captured the final playoff spot in the underwhelming Eastern Conference last season.
The way things are looking, the Pacers are going to be better this season.
