Floyd Mayweather Officially Calls out Manny Pacquiao at Family Gathering
Floyd Mayweather (42-0, 26 KO) has officially laid down the challenge to Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KO) out loud and as clearly as possible—on video.
There's no way to misinterpret the message here: Mayweather wants Pacquiao and he wants Pacquiao on May 5, 2012.
Mayweather also does more than just call Pacquiao out, he takes apart Pacquiao's battles against Mexican rival and legend Juan Manuel Marquez (53-6-1, 39 KO).
""I've been told the boy May 5 is open....Losing is in the back of Pacquiao's mind because he lost before. He just lost last week...He lost to Marquez three times. So he got six losses."
"
Mayweather defended his right to joke about Pacquiao, stating that boxing legends such as Muhammad Ali and George Foreman engaged in trash-talk because that was just a part of the sport. Mayweather told Fight Hype the following:
""They had me in court from nine in the morning to six at night asking me the same question about me saying something. All I say is Ali done it, George Foreman done it. This stuff been going on for years."
"
The most interesting portion of the rant is when Mayweather breaks down how pay-per-views pay out their fighters and how Pacquiao isn't collecting all of his payout for his pay-per-views.
Whether this is completely true or not is hard to discern since Mayweather himself calls what he's saying "speculation." Nevertheless, it's an interesting tidbit.
And of course, in the end, Mayweather calls out Pacquiao repeatedly while saying the date of the fight and again questioning the authenticity of Pacquiao's accomplishments.
""May 5 is the date. Sign the contract. Sign the contract. I'm waiting. I can't be sitting waiting all day. You want a fight, let's make it happen. May 5....May 5, let's make the fight. You say you a clean athlete and you told me you would take the test. Now it's hard for me to believe that a fighter can come from being a C+ fighter and losing to C+ fighters, now you beating A+ fighters...""
Mayweather gave a funny and pretty straightforward take on Pacquiao, business, money and his desire to fight the only man considered to be a threat to Mayweather's pound-for-pound dominance.
To end the rant, as his family cheers him on, Mayweather leaves the boxing public with the perfect quote
""May 5, I'm ready. If I sign today, you better sign tomorrow."
