Week 13 Waiver Wire: Advance Warning on Players Who Are Just Fool's Gold
It's usually never a bad thing to make changes or modifications to your fantasy team. However, being cautious of unworthy additions is also crucial.
When adding a player they must be of good use, because if you miss and he busts, well, now you're just that much farther back. That being said, here are four players to avoid adding in fantasy football.
Damian Williams: WR, Titans
1 of 4Damian Williams may lead the Titans in TD receptions, but he's only had two legit fantasy games this season. He's only compiled over 100 yards one time and the second most in a game this year is just 66.
Consistency has been a problem of Tennessee's passing attack, which directly affects Williams' weekly productivity. At best he can be dubbed a "hit or miss" player, but he's more of a miss than hit to begin with.
Now include the recent surge of RB Chris Johnson and expect the Titans to run the ball more anyway. And with the Titans in the playoff hunt, Johnson will easily be used the most compared to anyone else on the offense, especially Williams, who is less of a threat than Nate Washington.
Marion Barber: RB, Bears
2 of 4Despite not having a threatening passing attack, the Bears offense revolves around RB Matt Forte and no one else.
Backup Marian Barber sounds like a solid add because of Forte receiving so many carries and targets, but he's not a good addition by any means.
Sure he's scored five TDs this year, but he's only rushed for over 60 yards once and 39 yards was his season high before that. Barber's also rarely used in the passing game and is basically used to give Forte a break.
That being said, he's also never carried the ball more than 13 times and mostly comes in for the short-yardage situations. If your fantasy league gave points for getting first-downs he might be a tad more appealing.
Vince Young: QB, Eagles
3 of 4Eagles QB Vince Young may have hit 400 passing yards in Week 12 against the Pats' but most of that came when New England had already locked up the victory.
So, against an NFL defense in crucial situations you can't expect Vince Young to be that effective pocket-passer. For one, his receivers are underachieving and as of recent Riley Cooper and Jason Avant are his best targets.
Sure both are reliable, but neither are good enough to warrant any insane number of passing yards as both are more possession receivers.
Also, Philadelphia is a much better offense when they simply run the ball. RB LeSean McCoy is the best player on their offense, so there's no need to let Young drop back unless they give him a designed running play.
He's basically a lesser version of Michael Vick, so even if Young gets another start, don't bother adding him.
Brandon LaFell: WR, Panthers
4 of 4Not since Week 1 had Brandon LaFell caught more than four passes, that is until Week 12 when he caught for 46 yards against the Colts.
But don't let that potential blind you. Steve Smith is Carolina's No. 1 target for Cam Newton and the TEs Greg Olsen and Jeremy Shockey come after.
LaFell was just fortunate that the Panthers played the Colts, who give up yards to anyone and everyone they face. Against a solid defense, LeFell will be blanked much like he was against Jacksonville, New Orleans, Atlanta, and Tennessee.
Sure he's most likely good for about 40 or 50 yards but nothing more as he's only scored twice this season.
