Urban Meyer Ohio State: Buckeyes Will Get to BCS Game in 2012
Urban Meyer is going to bring the Ohio State Buckeyes back to a BCS Bowl in his first year with the team.
Just look at his amazing track record with teams and imagine what he will be able to do with a program as prestigious and already established as OSU.
When he left Bowling Green for Utah in 2003, he took the Utes to a 10-2 record in his first season. The very next year he led them to an undefeated record and the first ever BCS bowl for a non-automatic qualifying conference team.
This put him on the map and a number of high profile teams bid for his services, with the Florida Gators prevailing, and eventually they won two national championships under Meyer.
Now that OSU officially has him, the Buckeyes automatically become favorites in the Big Ten.
The team went 6-6 overall and 3-5 this year in conference play while dealing with the fallout from Jim Tressel being fired and the Terrelle Pryor scandal. Interim coach Luke Fickell was not the long-term answer but OSU knew that it would be a transitional year while they dealt with NCAA sanctions.
They had a respectable season with that in mind and with Urban’s recruiting prowess and coaching ability, they’ll be right back in the national title hunt again in 2012.
Along with Alabama’s Nick Saban, Meyer is the only active coach with two national championships to his name and he is also 4-0 in BCS bowls. He can get his teams there and win when he does.
It took him just two years at Florida to win his first NC and it shouldn’t take him that long to have the Buckeyes in contention.
They made a great move to get a proven coach who knows how to win and he will instantly add credibility and restore the luster to the program that fell from grace this season.
I expect to see the Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl next year.
