NBA Free Agents 2011: Miami Heat Would Dominate with Samuel Dalembert
The Miami Heat are in need of a capable big man to anchor in the low-post, but the pickings are slim as they already have over $65 million on their payroll for next season.
While the team is limited in its ability to make a move, there are options out there, and one of them is Samuel Dalembert. The 6'11" center would add considerable size to the Heat's roster and be more effective on the interior than Joel Anthony.
Dalembert averaged 8.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game last season. He has a huge wingspan and is a defensive connoisseur. His shot-blocking and rebounding abilities would go a long way on the current Miami team.
While Dalembert is not known for his offense, he would be an upgrade over anything the Heat have. He has a pretty good touch around the basket, and opens up the floor for the rest of his teammates. Not to mention that with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, the Heat aren't in dire need of offense anyway.
Make no mistake, Dalembert makes the Miami even stronger title contenders than they were last season. He gives the team a big man that can run the floor efficiently and who isn't an obvious liability on either end of the ball.
Luckily for the Heat, they are about $5 million below the luxury tax threshold, meaning they have full use of the mid-level exception. If Dalembert is willing to take a pay cut, the possibility of him donning a Miami uniform is incredibly strong.
And if this becomes a reality, so may the Heat's championship aspirations.
