BCS Rankings 2011: Baylor and 3-Loss Teams That Can Still Make BCS Bowl
Three losses usually means doom for BCS hopefuls, but a few teams with less-than-desirable records can still crash the party this season.
If you don't think a three-loss team should be in a BCS bowl, stop reading now. Because with wins this week, these three teams will be playing in college football's biggest games.
No. 17 Baylor Bears
Robert Griffin III and Baylor have been on an absolute rampage since dropping back-to-back games in October.
They've won four straight, including a seven-point victory over No. 10 Oklahoma and a 66-point effort against Texas Tech.
If they beat No. 22 Texas next week, the Bears will be 9-3 with three wins over ranked teams.
Plus, with a legit Heisman candidate in RG3, they will likely get some extra love from the pollsters.
Don't be surprised to see Baylor snatch an at-large BCS bid.
No. 20 Clemson Tigers
I was riding shotgun on the Tigers bandwagon earlier this season, but they've now been blown out in consecutive weeks.
Still, thanks to a very weak ACC, Clemson is in position to grab an automatic BCS bid.
They get a rematch with No. 5 Virgina Tech in the ACC title game, and I'm expecting another win for Clemson.
Even with the bad losses, the Tigers BCS resume is still pretty solid. A win on Saturday would give them four wins against ranked opponents, something very few teams can say.
No. 23 West Virginia Mountaineers
West Virginia has the potential to be the least impressive BCS team ever.
They got blown out by 5-6 Syracuse and lost by three to a so-so Louisville team. They only have one win against a ranked opponent, and the Mountaineers needed a blocked field goal and Zach Collaros injury to pull it off.
The Big East doesn't deserve an automatic BCS bid, but the system isn't changing anytime soon.
With a win over South Florida on Thursday, the Mountaineers could find themselves in their first BCS bowl since 2008.
