WWE: 5 Superstars Who Would Benefit from a Move to SmackDown

Sam WatkinsNov 27, 2011

As usual, there are a number of WWE Raw superstars who would benefit from a move to the "B-Show." Not that SmackDown deserves to be the lesser of the two shows, but it doesn't help when the events aren't live, and there is a serious lack of star power on the brand. At the same time, there are a number of Raw superstars who have found themselves lost in the shuffle of Monday Night Raw, and who could benefit from a move to the Blue Brand.

Honorable Mentions

Alex Riley—After splitting from The Miz this previous Summer, A-Ry looked to be headed for big things, but he has since disappeared. As a face on SmackDown, Riley could eventually challenge from the Intercontinental Championship, and continue to develop.

Michael McGillicutty—I don't think anyone expects the son of Mr. Perfect to be a future WWE champion, but I do expect more from him. He has the look, potential in-ring ability, he just lacks the charisma. A move to SmackDown would give him the chance to work on his issues, and maybe turn his career around.

Evan Bourne—At this point in his career, things aren't looking to bright for Evan Bourne. Winning the Tag Team Championship is an accomplishment, but he may have hit his peak. Will Evan Bourne really ever hold a major title in WWE? Vince McMahon refuses to give Bourne a serious push, and he will likely sit at the lower mid-card for the remainder of his career. I'm not sure what a move to SmackDown would do for Bourne, but at this point, it can't hurt. He may find his stride, but in TNA, not WWE.

5. Brodus Clay

Unlike the previous promo that I showed, this one by Brodus Clay is actually very good. There is no lack of charisma with Brodus Clay, he just needs experience. I know he is being repackaged for a major return on Raw, but does Raw really have a place for Brodus? WWE is already having time management problems on Raw. On SmackDown there is a surplus of heels right now, but Clay could end up being bigger than all of them. At some point he will likely venture to SmackDown, so why not send him now?

4. Zack Ryder

Woo Woo Woo You Know It!

In a way, Zack Ryder is already a member of SmackDown, as he makes weekly appearances as Teddy Long's assistant. As an official member of the SmackDown roster, Ryder would be able to continue his rivalry with Dolph Ziggler, as well as engaging in new rivalries with superstars like Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett and Ted DiBiase. Ryder as a face would be a fresh addition to SmackDown, and this is where his career could really take off.

3. R-Truth

4 of 6

I included this video just because I thought it was absolutely hilarious. Who knew R-Truth could be so entertaining? Rumor has it that when R-Truth returns from his suspension, he will be making a face turn, which would be a total mistake.

With the right execution, R-Truth could be a top heel on SmackDown, and he deserves it after his recent work. His in-ring ability is very solid, and we now know that he is a genius on the mic. Remember how much heat he got from crowds when he first turned heel? Ron Killings may be getting older, but R-Truth is still capable of amazing things.

2. Jack Swagger

5 of 6

Can you believe that Jack Swagger is a former world heavyweight champion? Neither can I based on the way WWE treats him now. There is something special about Jack Swagger, he has no weakness. He has shown the ability to draw tremendous heat, and we all know he is one of the best wrestlers in WWE.

I know SmackDown is overcrowded with mid-card heels, but don't make Swagger a mid-carder, make him a main-eventer. If Swagger spends the rest of his career where he is now, after having such success early, it would be a disgrace. Give Swagger another chance, he won't disappoint.

1. Drew McIntyre

6 of 6

The story of Drew McIntyre is truly sad. What did he do to deserve this? He was extremely successful and believable when he was last on SmackDown, he was on the fast track to greatness. How could someone hand-picked by Vince McMahon decline so rapidly? What did WWE not see in him that caused his downfall, the WWE Universe saw everything in this man.

Drew is without a doubt the most misused Superstar in WWE, he deserves to be main-eventing WrestleMania at this point, not starting off WWE superstars. Right now, anything is better than Raw for Drew McIntyre, so let him return to SmackDown and send him to the top.
