Bowl Projections: Alabama vs. LSU Is Logical Choice for 2012 BCS Championship
If the college football world decided to commit to honesty for just one moment, I think the majority would agree that the one and only matchup we want see in this year's BCS championship is a rematch of No. 1 ranked LSU and No. 2 Alabama.
To be frank, it's just the logical conclusion to the end of a very good season, and to have it otherwise would be somewhat of a tragedy.
No offense to Stanford, Virginia Tech or Oklahoma State, but I think we can all but agree that the Tide are the Tigers' best matchup.
If you don't believe me, let's break this down piece by piece.
I don't think anybody will argue that LSU is the best team in the nation. Other than 12-0 Houston in Conference-USA, LSU is the only unbeaten team in the BCS.
They boast wins over ranked Oregon, Mississippi State, West Virginia, Florida, Auburn, Alabama and Arkansas, and are favorites to finish off the season with a win against Georgia in the SEC championship.
They average 38. 2 points per game and have an astonishing defense that's ranked second in the nation with just 10.6 points given up per game.
They are the best team in the nation.
At 11-1, many people feel Stanford should have a shot at the BCS crown, but a loss to two-loss Oregon is a huge black mark on their resume.
Virginia Tech has been getting some looks at 11-1, but they have the ACC championship against Clemson to get past, and their strength of schedule isn't incredible.
Finally, there is an 11-1 Oklahoma State team, but they aren't even locks to get past Oklahoma next weekend, and their huge upset loss to Iowa State will be rather unforgettable.
The logical choice to meet up with LSU is Alabama, and it's very hard to dispute that.
The Tide have rolled to an extremely impressive 11-1 season, with their only loss coming against LSU in overtime.
They boast arguably the best running back in the nation in Trent Richardson, and a No. 1-ranked defense that only gives up 8.8 points per game.
Say what you will about championship games and strength of schedules, but I firmly believe that anybody who has seen any of these teams play knows that LSU and Alabama are the two best teams in the nation.
It just makes sense for them to have a rematch in the BCS championship.
Heaven forbid the bowl system makes sense for once.
