Texans vs. Jaguars: 8 Things We Learned from Jacksonville's 20-13 Loss
They just can't buy a win.
No sense of urgency. No real command of the offense. A backup quarterback who was the starter replaces the rookie starter and nothing good came of it.
They just cannot seem to get it right.
And at 3-8 on the season, a very hesitant rookie passer and 17 players on IR for the season, this is a team that looks like it needs the season to end now.
And in a hurry.
Here is what we learned from today's game.
8. Blaine Gabbert Looks Like a Quarterback Lost
1 of 8He has a chance to win the game in the closing moments last week against Cleveland.
This week, he could not stay within his comfort zone.
Constant pressure and timidness did the 22-year-old in this week.
There was a Luke McCown sighting this week. Will we see one next week as well?
7. Another Texans Quarterback Bites the Dust
2 of 8Matt Leinart may have broken his collarbone today, thanks to Jeremy Mincey.
Leinart was the second quarterback on the Texans roster. Starter Matt Schaub is out for the season with a foot injury.
Rookie T.J. Yates stayed the course and led the team to the win.
6. Maurice Jones-Drew Has 166 Yards in Total Offense
3 of 8And it was all for naught.
Jones-Drew has 99 yards rushing and 67 receiving and became the focal point of both the running game and receiving game.
And with a performance like that, you would hope it would end in a victory.
The Jaguars have had no such luck like that.
5. The Jaguars Will Have Nightmares of Conner Barwin
4 of 8Remember this: The Jaguars could have drafted Barwin just like every other team.
Barwin had four sacks on the day and was in the quarterback's face for most of the afternoon.
His play alone was the difference maker on defense.
He was an animal today.
4. The Defense Did Its Part with the Running Game
5 of 8Ben Tate and Arian Foster gained 91 yards: together.
The Jaguars, except for allowing a 43-yard scamper in the first half, did their part with the run defense. This with starters Matt Roth, Terrance Knighton and Clint Session out of the contest.
3. Marcedes Lewis Had a Sure Touchdown
6 of 8When Lewis, the Pro Bowl tight end, dropped the sure touchdown, it was the end for the team as far as momentum.
The Jaguars need Lewis to return to Pro Bowl form, and it looks like drops by receivers and the tight end will continue to happen the rest of the season.
2. Even the Radio Announcers Seemed Disgruntled
7 of 8If you listened to Brian Sexton and Jeff Lageman, who cover the game for the Jaguars on WOKV 106.5 here in Jacksonville, you could tell they too were disgusted with the way the team showed no sense of urgency in the second half.
Lageman, a former Jaguars player, said the team will continue to have issues with dropped passes and time management as the season wears on.
This team has no playoff aspirations now and nothing left to play for other than a high draft pick and self pride.
1. San Diego Comes to Town for Monday Night Football
8 of 8Philip Rivers and the Chargers come to town for a Monday Night tilt. Could there be more night time magic for the Jaguars?
The Jaguars beat the Baltimore Ravens 12-7 earlier in the year in what was believed to be the most impressive defensive performance of the season.
Will we see Luke McCown behind center this coming week?
