Why Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz Will Be the Best Welterweight Title Fight
UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre is a modern-day example of what some people once called "the complete MMA fighter", and looking at the majority of his skills, it's a tough argument to oppose.
Even despite a taxing performance against Jake Shields at UFC 129, GSP has at least remained dominant in his performances, even though some of his performances were not very action-packed as they were hyped up to be, but fans who have wondered when GSP would be challenged as well as when he'd be returning back to his finishing ways might see the champ's UFC 143 summit meeting with Nick Diaz as something of a blessing-in-disguise.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
It's pretty miraculous that the fight's even happening at all, considering what transpired in the weeks leading up to UFC 137, but it's also a blessing-in-disguise for all involved because everybody in the MMA world is finally going to get a chance to see how one of the sport's two best Mixed Martial Artists in the game right now, pound-for-pound, handles the man who might be seen as quite possibly MMA's true holder of the title of "pound-for-pound best fighter".
If there is a question as to why this fight could be the greatest Welterweight title bout in Mixed Martial Arts history, let the logic behind it leave no further than the stylistic collision.
GSP's striking has come under some fire as it appeared forced when he tried to implement it against Shields, but his cardio, stamina, speed, heart and relentless takedown-heavy attack do present problems for Diaz, who has had some trouble in the past with solid wrestlers.
However, to give Diaz trouble on the ground in 2012 means finding a way to not only keep Diaz on the ground, but also making any use of Diaz's jiu-jitsu obsolete, and the motivation behind many predictions in favor of a Diaz victory has been the question of whether even the great GSP can neutralize the jiu-jitsu of the controversial Stockton bad boy.
Diaz is a slow starter at times, but when a fighter gets him started, he does not turn it off until the ref intervenes, and his direct style of striking is one that leaves plenty of room for GSP to try and catch a breather, but Diaz's direct-attack style of boxing does not leave a great deal of room to explode with many takedowns, if any takedowns, and this could very well be the fight in which a challenger makes GSP work harder for his victory in one fight than he ever thought about working in order to get to his current pinnacle.
Everything both men bring is all there on paper, from their strengths to their weaknesses, from their best chances of offense to their best angle of implementing counters, but if you think this fight is a great fight on paper, just you wait until Super Bowl Weekend.
This surefire classic looks magnificent on paper, but when the cage door gets locked at UFC 143, the entire MMA world and perhaps even the entire sports world could be in for not only the greatest Welterweight title fight in MMA history, but also the single greatest title competition in the history of the world of full-contact sports.
