Bruins vs. Jets: Boston Looks to Start Another Win Streak After Red Wings Loss

Nicholas GossNov 26, 2011

The Boston Bruins' 10-game winning streak was snapped by the Detroit Red Wings on Friday as the defending Stanley Cup champs lost 3-2 in a shootout. However, they will have little time to think about their loss because the Winnipeg Jets will soon play their first game in Boston since November 21, 1995.

Boston went from having the worst record in the Eastern Conference to first place in the Northeast division during their winning streak, but they must be ready for a talented Jets team on Saturday.

"

"We’re playing a good team. Winnipeg is a team that we’re aware of some of their players," said Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron. "They’re young and they’re starting to build their good core of players. so it’s going to be a tough game..."

The Jets are tied for third in the Southeast division and have several talented players. Young forward Evander Kane is starting to become a real star, and leads the team with eight points.

Winnipeg also has strong leadership from their captain Andrew Ladd, who won the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010.

Zach Bogosian, Dustin Byfuglien, and Johnny Oduya are three solid defenseman the Jets are hoping to build around for the future.

However, with a lot of young talent comes a lot of mistakes, which is one reason why the Jets are 26th in goals allowed per game at 3.2

The Bruins are second in the NHL in goals scored per game, and the Jets could be the perfect opponent to start another long winning streak against. In 22 games played this season the Jets have allowed four or more goals in a game nine times.

After a horrible first month of the season, the Bruins have flipped the switch in November and are back to their tough, physical style of hockey.

Forward Daniel Paille, who scored Boston's first goal Friday against Detroit, spoke about the team's improvement after a few difficult opening weeks.

"

Just a lot more confident.  I think we're a lot—feels like we're a lot stronger on most plays and it seems like the chemistry is coming a lot better and I think that's something that we wanted to expect throughout the whole season and it started a little bit slow, but it's nice to come around.

"

The Bruins have showed great resiliency and character this season, coming back from deficits to win several times and not allowing early goals to negatively affect them.

Boston has gone through a lot the past two seasons, and those experiences have made them stronger this year. The roster is full of young players who despite winning the Stanley Cup last season will grow and get better with more experience this season.

Winnipeg makes its first trip to Boston since 1995 on Saturday night, and they will face a Bruins team eager to put Friday's loss behind them and start another impressive winning streak.

*Author's note: The Jets are back in Winnipeg after the franchise relocated from Atlanta this summer. The Jets team that faced the Bruins in 1995 are now the Phoenix Coyotes.
