Iron Bowl 2011: Alabama Will Get Revenge for Auburn's Comeback Last Year
The Alabama Crimson Tide head into the 2011 Iron Bowl against the Auburn Tigers with chips on their shoulders because of last year's blown lead.
After getting off to a great start—and going up 24-0—the Crimson Tide proceeded to have the biggest collapse in the school's history. Outscored 28-3, Alabama did not complete the upset of the undefeated Tigers; Cam Newton carried Auburn with four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing).
Newton then went on to help his team win the BCS title game and was the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft.
The Tide still owe the Tigers for last year's humiliating loss, and they want to embarrass Auburn on national television.
Alabama has the best defense in the country—allowing only 8.4 points per game. Their secondary is comprised solely of NFL-level talent, and their entire unit is one of the best we have ever seen. The Tigers will not be able to score much on a motivated defense that has allowed no more than 14 points in a game this season.
'Bama also has a great offense, led by quarterback A.J. McCarron and Heisman candidate Trent Richardson.
Alabama completely outclasses Auburn on the field, and even more so on the sidelines.
Nick Saban is one of the best coaches in the nation, and he will have his guys ready for this game. His team is undefeated on the road this season because he has found a way to make sure his guys are prepared to play in front of hostile crowds.
Saban will no doubt use last year's meltdown as motivation. While other, less-experienced coaches may have brushed over the collapse, thinking it would demotivate players, Saban knows how to work with every member of his team.
Alabama is going to prove to us that they are truly one of the best teams in the country, and that they deserve to be in the BCS title game.
