WWE: Was Awesome Truth Ruined by the Lack of Follow-Up to Their Cage Beat Down?
To all my American friends and readers...
I wish you all a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday. Here in Quebec, we got snow... thanks for nothing.
There is one thing I am truly grateful for, though: The end of Awesome Truth has come, and The Miz is on his way back to where he belongs—and that is the WWE championship scene, sooner or later.
Let's get something straight right away—that whole "tag team" with R-Truth had so much potential, but was botched miserably and was doomed to die right after Hell In A Cell last month.
It is unfortunate, because I began to enjoy their funny promos every now and then—and if done right, they could have been a great success.
Oh well.
I know we all expected to have them go over last Sunday because of some fluke, but they didn't, and the next night on RAW, they were humiliated by that emotionless superhero John Cena.
Could he have shot down the future talent any more? Who the hell does he think he is?
Real Talk people!
All the great work the two heels have done over the last year was shot down in a matter of seconds—and worse, they were never made to appear like real threats in the first place. I have analysed this from all angles, and why would Cena need Rock or vice-versa if either one could destroy Awesome Truth all by themselves?
It was never credible.
We also had the Kevin Nash/Triple H/CM Punk story that was seemingly tied in there, but that was aborted as well, so the question remains... was there ever or is there still a conspiracy?
My gut feels like it was canned liked that stupid anonymous RAW GM thing.
Looking back at things, the beat down in the cage at HIAC was very cool. Even Del Rio tasted lead pipe. Nobody knew what could happen next, and we all suspected others being involved. It had immense potential.
It opened doors to some nice possible scenarios too: John Cena turning to the dark side, Triple H or someone powerful revealed to be behind it all—whatever.
Nothing came of it, though, and it was like CM Punk says all the time: Same old, same old.
Survivor Series 2011 still managed to be a great show. I haven't said that since Money In The Bank. Beth Phoenix dominated Eve by Glam Slamming her from high up, Punk regained his title, NYC loves heels, Ryder is getting hot and Dolph Ziggler impressed the pants off me.
I was so happy to see The Rock. He still carries that magic, and The Miz had his ultimate wish—to face his idol in the ring. Cena got Rock-Bottomed, and people went home happy.
You see, there is a huge silver lining to things.
In a nutshell, the Awesome One needs to refocus his amazing energies towards the future and archive that whole Awesome Truth mess. As a fan, I am disappointed that it didn't succeed, but I know it served to make him an even more ambitious character, and the end of the year looks very good to me.
CM Punk and The Miz in a WWE title program? ...Really? ...Already? I couldn't have asked for a more fantastic early Christmas present.
That's the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, and it's AWESOME!
