Bowl Projections: The Best Possible Player vs. Player Matchups
The college football bowl season is one of the best times of the year. Not only do you get teams paired up against one another that usually wouldn't play each other, but you also get great player vs. player matchups as well.
It's always nice to see a great quarterback duel or a great receiver matched up against a shutdown corner.
With a couple of weeks left before the bowls are announced, here are some of the bowl projections with the best possible player vs. player matchups.
Tajh Boyd vs. Geno Smith
1 of 5This would obviously be the matchup for the Orange Bowl as Clemson will likely win the ACC and West Virginia will win the Big East.
Both of these quarterbacks are similar in their style of play, as they can beat you with their arm but have no problem taking off if you give them room to run.
Boyd has thrown for 3,255 yards and 27 touchdowns, while Smith has thrown for 3,479 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Tajh Boyd may have the advantage, though, because his offense does have more weapons. Good matchup nonetheless with two solid offenses.
Case Keenum vs. Denard Robinson
2 of 5It's likely we could see this matchup, as Houston gets the SEC spot in the Sugar Bowl and Michigan is selected as an at-large bid.
Both of these quarterbacks play very differently but are effective in their own way. Robinson as we all know is a running quarterback who has rushed for over 3,000 yards in his career.
Keenum has been one of the best passing quarterbacks in the last five seasons, throwing for nearly 18,000 yards and 145 touchdowns.
This would be a very interesting matchup and it could be the last player to have the ball wins.
Brandon Weeden vs. Andrew Luck
3 of 5This is the matchup we could end up seeing in the Fiesta Bowl if both teams take care of business the rest of the way.
Andrew Luck is the top quarterback in the country who will be the No.1 overall pick in next year's NFL draft if he decides to come out. He's thrown for nearly 3,000 yards and 31 touchdowns and he'll have no problem carving up this Oklahoma State defense.
Brandon Weeden has really come out of nowhere and became a Heisman candidate, throwing for 4,111 yards and 34 touchdowns. He is the trigger man behind one of the top offenses in the country and should have a great outing as well.
Russell Wilson vs. LaMichael James
4 of 5This would likely be the Rose Bowl matchup as the Badgers will win the Big Ten and the Ducks will win the Pac-12.
Both of these players were Heisman candidates until their respective teams lost a couple of games. Regardless, these are two of the most exciting players to watch and it will be fun watching them put up tons of touchdowns.
Despite missing two games this season due to injury, James has still rushed for 1,285 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is still a Heisman candidate and will still likely receive an invite to New York.
Russell Wilson has thrown for 2,506 yards and 26 touchdowns. He can kill you with either his arm or his legs and when he really gets this offense going, he's impossible to stop.
You want a high-scoring game? This is the game for you.
Trent Richardson vs. Spencer Ware and Michael Ford
5 of 5The National Championship is likely to see a rematch of the LSU Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide, whether fans like it or not.
Trent Richardson is the most complete back in the country and has rushed for 1,380 and 20 touchdowns. The guy is an absolute monster and a running back that you see a lot of on Sundays.
Michael Ford and Spencer Ware form the two-headed monster at running back for the Tigers. Combined, they have rushed for over 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Both of these teams love to run the ball and use their weapons, but both defensive lines are fantastic at stopping the run. Whichever team racks up more yards on the ground could come out the winner in this huge game.
