Fantasy Football: Peyton Hillis and the Biggest Flops of the Season

Jeff ChaseNov 23, 2011

When it comes to fantasy football, there is nothing worse then wasting a top pick on a player who completely flops. That was the case many times this season.

Fantasy football's early rounds are considerably dominated by the running back, but unfortunately, time and time again, that has proven to be a huge gamble. Other positions tend to falter as well, most notably the running back. This season it was Peyton Hillis.

Hillis wasn't alone, though, as these players were the biggest flops this season.

Larry Fitzgerald

1 of 8

While this has much more to do with Kevin Kolb or whoever takes the snaps in Arizona this season, the Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is having a down year.

Fitzgerald is by far one of the most talented wide receivers in the league, but over the last two years he has not had the luxury of having a passer as talented as his former guy in Kurt Warner.

This season, hopes were high since the Cardinals brought in the Philadelphia Eagles' Kolb, but he has yet to be impressive as he only connected with Fitz with two touchdowns.

For Fitzgerald owners, this was an extremely unsatisfying season.

Chris Johnson

This may be the last year that Chris Johnson will be a first-round draft pick.

The Tennessee Titans' "star" running back has once again had a poor season, and this is perhaps an all-time low. With only two touchdowns through 10 games, this season definitely isn't what many were expecting when they drafted Johnson.

The Titans don't have everything put together this season, but still it is shocking just how bad of a season Johnson is having. In only two games has Johnson surpassed 100 yards.

The rest? All under 60 yards.

CJ2K will be lucky if he can even get to 500 yards.

Andre Johnson

3 of 8

Yes, Andre Johnson has been hurt this season. Still, it has not been a good season at all, as the stud wideout has only played three games thus far.

Considering that Johnson was typically a top 15 pick, this year can be considered a flop. He has only two touchdowns on the season, but he was lighting things up with three straight games of seven receptions.

People in PPR leagues were loving him, but his injury woes have sidelined him and have likely set a few teams back. Now that he is returning with Matt Schaub out for the season, who knows if he will be as successful as he was to begin the year.

Peyton Hillis

4 of 8

If you don't believe in curses, you best start; the Madden Curse is for real. This year's cover boy Peyton Hillis of Cleveland Browns' running back fame has yet to show up this season.

After having a phenomenal season in 2010 in which Hillis had 11 rushing touchdowns and 1,177 yards, this season has been a letdown for Browns fans and for those who drafted Hillis.

On the season, he only has two touchdowns on 60 attempts through four games.

Hillis is looking to not only be a bust this season, but perhaps a one-hit wonder. While he is unique in being a fullback-type player who runs like a running back, there is a chance that his time has already run out, especially in Cleveland.

Jamaal Charles

5 of 8

Perhaps the worst way to get on this list, Jamaal Charles is here because he tore his ACL in the second game of the season.

Charles was a first-round pick in many leagues, and his loss likely set many teams back. Unfortunately for them, no back from the Kansas City Chiefs has been able to come in and play at the same level as Charles.

Many were hoping Charles was going to have a huge year this season, but ultimately that wasn't going to happen. If healthy, Charles will likely be a top draft pick once again.

DeAngelo Williams

6 of 8

A fantasy stud for many seasons, the Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams has yet to impress this year. With the addition of quarterback Cam Newton, it seems like the running backs have taken a backseat in the running game with the Panthers.

Williams has had a terrible season. On the season, he has one rushing touchdown and only one game over 100 yards. Not what fans were hoping for.

With running back Jonathan Stewart still waiting in the wings, it wouldn't be a surprise if one of them is not in Carolina next season.

Kevin Kolb

7 of 8

People were excited for the idea of Kevin Kolb finally having a starting job in the NFL. His brief performances with the Philadelphia Eagles were phenomenal, and many saw him as a great quarterback.

The Arizona Cardinals "won" the Kolb sweepstakes, but it seems like they are not satisfied with their prize.

Through seven games, Kolb has 15 turnovers and only eight touchdowns. Not exactly what they were hoping for, especially with players like Larry Fitzgerald, Early Doucet and Beanie Wells around him.

Kolb hasn't done well, and he could certainly be out of a starting job in Arizona after this season. Things remain to be seen as he is injured, but this season hasn't exactly been a bright spot for Kolb and the Cardinals.

Reggie Wayne

8 of 8

When Reggie Wayne is available, it is hard to not take him. Unfortunately for many fantasy football team owners, they took Wayne and it has not gone well.

The Indianapolis Colts were a giant question mark to start out the season, but with quarterback Peyton Manning eventually being ruled out for likely the entire season, Wayne has yet to perform at numbers that fans are used to.

He hasn't scored since Week 1, and the same goes for him breaking 100 yards. This season has been bad for any fan of the Colts, but it also has been for Wayne and his fantasy value.

Hopefully, Wayne will be able to rebound in 2012 because everyone knows that he is still elite.
