5 Reasons Why Tim Tebow Is Better Than Your Team's Quarterback

Peter EmerickNov 25, 2011

Disclaimer: I am not a Broncos fan or a Tim Tebow fanboy, although I do enjoy "tebowing" every once in a while.

Whether or not you want to admit it, Tim Tebow is a winner.

In college he won loads of games, championships and all sorts of awards. His winning ways didn't stop there. Tebow carried his ability to win all the way from Florida to the Rocky Mountains.

While Tebow's wins haven't been as impressive as some would like, there is no debating the fact that he is 4-1 as an NFL starting quarterback. Just like in college, Tebow finds and creates ways to win games that appear out of reach.

Tim Tebow is one of the all-time greatest college football players of all time. And in a decade or so I think he will be remembered the same way in the NFL.

Get ready. I'm about to tell you why Tim Tebow is better than your favorite NFL team's quarterback.

5. Tim Tebow Gets Players to Rally Around Him

1 of 5

Tim Tebow wouldn't be able to do what he does without the teammates that surround him.  Not only does Tebow know that, he plays like it and his teammates undoubtedly respect that.  Just look at the things Tim Tebow not only says, but also lives out:

“I can only promise them one thingthat when I step on the field I will give everything I have.  I will give my entire heart and leave everything on the field every time I step on there.”

“They (teammates) have been very supportive which has meant a lot to me…I really appreciate their support.”

What is special about Tim Tebow is not that he says those things, but rather that the way he plays the game mirrors what he says. Players want to support someone like that. Players will give that extra effort for a leader like that and that is exactly what the Broncos have been doing for Tebow as of late.

Wide receivers are diving for passes usually out of their reach. Running backs are making huge blocks to protect Tebow.  They are going the extra mile for Tebow not because it is in their contracts but rather because they believe in who Tebow is and what he means to the team.

In 5 games Tebow has accomplished something it can sometimes take years to do: get players to believe in what you do and who you are.

4. Tim Tebow Is Absolutely Authentic in Everything He Says and Does

Every quarterback knows what to say during post-game interviews.  They are taught from day one to, in defeat, always congratulate the other team and when victorious to always show respect to the opponent. Just because players know what to say doesn't mean they actually mean it.

Tim Tebow, on the other hand, appears to be genuinely authentic in what he says and in what he does. I genuinely believe what Tim Tebow says and I think most people feel that same way. As a fan that is something I truly respect. On a more important level for Tebow, I'm sure that helps establish and maintain a deep level of trust and respect with his Broncos teammates.

The humility that Tebow integrates into the way he plays the game of football, is something that is hard to find in professional sports. In a league fueled by high profile contracts and marketing deals, Tebow leads with the "this isn't about me, it's about my team" approach. While a majority of NFL quarterbacks say that, Tim Tebow lives it out not only on the field but also in his every day life.

I would take an average quarterback who is confident enough to play the game not caring about what people say over a great quarterback who is always trying to prove somebody wrong, every day of the week.

3. Tim Tebow Is a Absolute Beast at 6'3'' 236 Pounds

3 of 5

Yup, that photo is of Tim Tebow, the Broncos Quarterback.

Tim Tebow is right around the league average at 6 feet 3 inches.  His weight of 236 pounds is also not unbelievably large for a quarterback, but what makes that number stand out is the fact that he is 236 pounds of pure muscle.

Tebow defies the norm of most quarterbacks, by looking more like a linebacker than he does a quarterback. Tebow does not shy away from contact and he does more damage to defenders than they do to him at times. The physicality of Tim Tebow is one thing that separates him from other quarterbacks in the NFL. Tim Tebow doesn't get banged up. He has the strength to stand in the pocket and take hits as well as run with the ball and dish out some damage.

I know some people will say his physicality will ultimately result in an injury, but until that happens Tebow's strength and stature will be one of his biggest strengths.

Tebow's strength makes him a threat in every aspect of the Broncos running game. Where most quarterbacks have the ability to scramble for a few yards every once and awhile, Tebow has the ability to run the ball like a legitimate full back each and every play.

His ability to run the ball like that forces defenses to key in on him which opens up the passing game. Once Tebow figures out how to be more accurate that aspect of his game will be a huge difference maker.

Name one other quarterback in the NFL that runs with the ball like a fullback. Go ahead, I dare you.

2. Tim Tebow Could Care Less What Anyone Thinks, in a Good Way

4 of 5

There are a lot of quarterbacks in the NFL that don't know how to not take things personally.  Quarterbacks like Jay Cutler, Phillip Rivers and Michael Vick to name a few, can't seem to understand that all the media wants to do is get in your head.

The difference between good quarterbacks and great quarterbacks is their ability to play solely for their team and themselves. I'm not trying to say that Tim Tebow is a great quarterback but he is one of the few quarterbacks in the league that plays purely for those around him and for the love of the game.

A lot of quarterbacks use the doubt and disapproval of others to fuel their game. While that can be a good thing, at times it leads to players trying to do to much and playing with too much emotion.  Tim Tebow on the other hand plays with his emotions under control, and that is because he truly doesn't care what his detractors have to say.

Here is a good example of what I'm talking about. Just look at how Tebow responds to former Broncos QB and current owner John Elway talking about Tebow's inability to be a franchise quarterback:

I've had a blast living out my dream for the last five weeks and I will continue to work as hard as I can to make this organization proud and every time I step on the field I will give everything I have and I will leave everything I have on the field every single Sunday."

Most other quarterbacks in the league wouldn't be able to lay their ego down and respond that way, but Tebow can and that is one of the things that will make him a great quarterback one day.

1. Tim Tebow Has the Intangibles of a Proven Winner

5 of 5

Tim Tebow has done quite a bit of winning in his football career so far.  In his college career he alone he won the following:  2 SEC Championships, 2 BCS National Championships, Davey Obrian Award, 2x Maxwell Trophy, 2007 NCAA QB of the year award and the almighty Heisman Trophy.

In his three final seasons, Tim Tebow led the Gators to a BCS National Championships and a 35-6 combined record.  I forgot to mention that he accomplished all of that playing against what most analysts consider the best conference in all of college football, the mighty SEC.

This year alone in the NFL, Tim Tebow has rallied the Denver Broncos to a 4-1 record. How did he do it?  Well, he sure didn't do it with his arm or with his pocket presence. He definitely didn't do it with impressive completion percentages and total quarterback ratings. Tim Tebow willed his team to victory just like he always has, with intangibles like leadership, determination and perseverance.

Whether you like it or not, Tim Tebow wins.  Whether he plays awful or brilliantly he does what he has to do to win, and that is more than a lot of NFL Quarterbacks can say for themselves.  Tim Tebow and losing don't get along and I don't think they ever will.

DJ Khaled and Snoop Dogg should release a remix of their hit "All I Do is Win" with the new phrase of "All Tebow Does is Win, Win, Win no matter what" ...
