My Thoughts on Sean Avery's Suspension
I think I am writing this because I am sick of all the people bashing Sean Avery. But here it goes. Bash me if you want but I am using facts. And the facts do not lie. Here we go!
Sean Avery and Mike Vanderjagt are similar in two ways.
Point one: They are both Canadians.

Point two: Eventually, they will both be blackballed out of their respected leagues.
Mike Vanderjagt is statistically the most accurate NFL kicker in the whole entire history of the NHL. But due to politics in Indianapolis he was kicked out of Indianapolis. And eventually he returned to the CFL where his career began.
Sean Avery is statistically a solid third liner who not only is a solid enforcer but a solid third line forward. He can grind and make points, and he can also protect his team and fire them up after fights. So let me clear this up now.
Sean Avery has never been a cheap shot artist. He's just a player who takes his job too seriously. By that I mean he's an enforcer. Correct.
But sometimes he just needs to learn to leave it on the ice and not take it off the ice. It wasn't worth a six game suspension. It wasnt worth getting kicked off of the team. He's just a scapegoat to the Stars crappy play so far this season and its unfair to him. His suspension should have been one game. And every other game this season against the Flames, to prevent him and Dion from fighting.
"The Sean Avery Rule" was not unsportsman like at all at the time. Honestly, it is one of the most clever things in ice hockey history. He did his job of screening the goalie. He played the puck well. He did his job: score on the power play.
He scored the goal on the power play. Thus meaning he smartly did his job. The rule is now an "Unsportsmanlike Conduct" penalty (which makes sense now) but at the time it was honestly very creative and a very smart play by Avery.
As of today (December 20th), his suspension has been nine games long. By the end of December it will be 13 days. If he doesn't play a game in January (which I dont believe he will) it will be a 25 day suspension. A 25 day suspension for saying the slang term "sloppy seconds." Shaq got fined for saying the F-Word on television. The FCC doesn't even block the term "sloppy seconds."
Hypothetically speaking still, if Sean Avery gets suspended for more than 25 games he will have similar suspensions to these people:
Tie Domi: 11 games for sucker punching Scott Niedermayer in the playoffs.
Todd Bertuzzi: 20 games for sucker punching Steve Moore knocking him out and breaking his neck in a game. Bertuzzi was also charged with assault.
Steve Downie: 20 games for leaving his feet in a preseason game and knocking out Dean McAmmond.
Marty McSorley: 23 games for swinging his stick like a baseball bat at Donald Brashear and knocking him out.
Chris Simon: 25 games for swinging his stick like a baseball bat and hitting Ryan Hollweg in the head
Plain and simple: Avery's Suspension does not fit the crime.
