10 Reasons Daniel Bryan's WWE Career Will Be Epic

Drake OzNov 24, 2011

Will Daniel Bryan ever get the push he deserves in the WWE?

That's a question that many of us ask ourselves because we're a little bit skeptical about his ability to become a huge star in the company. We know that he could and should be a main-eventer, but we're not sure he'll ever get the proper booking to make that happen.

I know there's a good chance that Bryan will be a perennial mid-carder for the remainder of his career, but I'm feeling a little optimistic today. So, I decided to take a out-of-the-ordinary, not-so-pessimistic look at Bryan's career and how I could see it actually turning out.

Here are 10 reasons why Daniel Bran's career will be epic

10. His Underrated Mic Work

1 of 10

The major knock on Daniel Bryan is that he "lacks charisma" and "can't work the mic."

But we're never going to know if that second part is true until he gets consistent opportunities to cut promos.

On the rare occasion when Bryan is given a mic and allowed to talk, he does a better job than most people give him credit for, especially when his promo comes during an intense feud that allows him to show a ton of emotion like he did with his NXT promo against Michael Cole.

Admittedly, Bryan hasn't showed all that much on the microphone so far. But that problem stems from the way he's been booked so far, not from Bryan himself.

Give this dude a microphone, let him cut some promos and then you'll see that his mic work is actually pretty solid.

9. The Upcoming Departures of Future Hall of Famers

2 of 10

There are several future WWE Hall of Famers who could be calling it quits within the next year or two: The Undertaker, Triple H, Rey Mysterio, Kane and perhaps even The Big Show.

When those guys are gone for good, the WWE will be looking to fill their shoes with younger guys currently on the WWE roster.

Daniel Bryan should and could be one of those superstars who steps up to fill the void, especially if the company is looking for a smaller wrestler to push as a main-eventer in the post-Mysterio era.

Of course, the upcoming departures of these wrestling legends don't ensure that Bryan will make it to the top, but he's much more likely to get a sustained main-event run if there are fewer big names in the WWE.

8. He's Already over Despite the Lack of a Serious Push

3 of 10

Even after winning SmackDown's Money in the Bank match, Daniel Bryan has never really gotten a serious push in the WWE.

Yet, he's still incredibly over.

Bryan gets some of the biggest pops of any baby-face mid-carder; the fans are fully behind him during his matches and they appreciate everything that he can do in the ring.

If you don't believe that Bryan's over, watch that video and you'll hear the fans chanting for him to return. Heck, even go back and watch Sunday's Survivor Series pay-per-view, and you can hear the fans begging for him to cash in his briefcase.

Yes, despite the lack of any type of sustained push whatsoever, Bryan is as over as a mid-carder can get. At some point, WWE officials will have no choice but to listen to the fans.

7. A Heel Turn Could Be a Career-Changer

4 of 10

Heel turns are often career-changers.

Just look at what they did for both Christian and R-Truth in 2011 alone. Neither man had ever had a legitimate main-event run in the WWE up to that point, but Christian found himself winning two World titles while R-Truth competed against The Rock in his first match in seven years.

Now, imagine what a heel turn could do for Daniel Bryan.

I know some think Bryan "can't pull off a heel turn because he's too small," but after he won the ROH Championship, he started acting somewhat hellish and did well in that role. The size issue isn't an issue at all, because as someone like Chris Jericho proves, you don't have to be big to be a great heel.

I'm not sure if the WWE will actually ever turn Bryan, but if the creative team made the decision to do so, it could be a career-defining moment that helps skyrocket Bryan to superstardom just like it did for CM Punk back in 2009.

6. The Past Success of Smaller Wrestlers

5 of 10

Speaking of size, there are many pundits who think that Daniel Bryan's size will hold him back in the WWE.

Well, here are some names for you: Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio, CM Punk, Christian, Cody Rhodes and Dolph Ziggler.

The common link between all of these guys is that they've either had tons of success in the WWE already or are on their way to what should be great careers. Oh yeah, and none of them are huge guys.

Despite the stereotype that the WWE only pushes massive wrestlers, there are a number of smaller guys who have gotten World title runs or big pushes just over the last year or two.

If it can happen to those guys I mentioned, it can certainly happen to Daniel Bryan, too.

5. He's Achieved a Lot in a Short Span in the WWE

6 of 10

Yes, the push for Daniel Bryan hasn't been there so far, but does anyone realize how long he's actually been in the WWE?

Bryan didn't debut on TV until February 2010, and he missed more than two months of TV time when he was legitimately fired for choking Justin Roberts with a tie in June of that year.

So, that means that Bryan has only been on WWE programming for about a year-and-a-half, and in that span, he's already captured the United States Championship and won the Money in the Bank match.

Though he didn't get the push of someone like Alberto Del Rio or Sheamus, it's not like he's been treated like some slouch either.

Bryan is simply doing what just about every wrestler on the WWE roster has to do: work his way up the card.

4. The Rise of CM Punk

7 of 10

Daniel Bryan is nowhere near as good as CM Punk on the microphone, but the rise of Punk still gives me hope that Bryan career can take off just like Punk's did.

The obvious link between the two is that they're both phenomenal wrestlers—the top two in the WWE, in my opinion—and as much as the WWE has pushed Punk because of his character and mic work, his in-ring work has played a big part in that as well.

Might Punk be the start of a trend that sees the WWE push more wrestlers based on their wrestling ability?

With Punk's recent success and the start of pushes for guys like Dolph Ziggler and Cody Rhodes, I'm beginning to have a lot more faith in the WWE's ability to get behind a guy like Daniel Bryan who can steal the show every time he steps in the ring.

3. He's Only 30 Years Old

8 of 10

Daniel Bryan is 30 years old, the age when most WWE stars are entering the prime of their careers.

He's younger than Randy Orton, John Cena, CM Punk, Sheamus, The Miz, Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler, just to name a few.

It's not like Bryan's almost 40.

He's at that point in his career where most up-and-coming WWE stars make that jump to the main-event level. Just look at Sheamus, Punk or The Miz, three guys who all made it to the World title scene during their early 30s.

We have to have a little patience before we say "Bryan will never get pushed," because in many ways, he's not yet at the point where WWE stars typically get pushed in the first place.

2. The Money in the Bank Briefcase

9 of 10

The Money in the Bank briefcase has been the catalyst for a number of great careers.

I think it's safe to say that neither Edge nor CM Punk nor The Miz would have reached the main-event level for a sustained run there if it wasn't for them winning that guaranteed title shot.

Will Daniel Bryan join them?

Of course, he could go the way of Mr. Kennedy and Jack Swagger and not benefit from the briefcase at all, but he could also use it as a career-changing tool that turns him into one of the top stars in all of the WWE.

How Bryan fares after cashing in is largely out of his hands—it's up the creative team—but given that more Money in the Bank winners have gone on to success than have not, I think Bryan will, too.

1. He's the Best Wrestler on the Planet

10 of 10

We've all heard this a thousand times before, but it's true: Daniel Bryan is the best wrestler on the planet.

Everything, from his in-ring psychology to his chain wrestling to his submission holds, is incredibly crisp, and he truly knows how to tell a story in the ring.

At some point, the WWE brass will realize that fans want to see a guy like Bryan compete in high-profile matches on a consistent basis. We want to see him putting on classic matches on big shows and tearing the house down with the likes of CM Punk and Dolph Ziggler.

We want wrestling, we want Bryan and the two fit together perfectly.

If the higher-ups in the WWE can finally get it through their thick skulls that Bryan should be main-eventing pay-per-views, then there is no level of success that he cannot reach.
