Early Predictions For Western Conference All-Star Picks
I wanna take a stab at who will be the players making it to Phoenix this February. I'm basing my predictions not on who I think deserves to make it to the game, but rather who I think actually will. So, I'll just start right into it.
WEST
Picking the starters shouldn't be that hard considering the first round of votes have already been tallied up by NBA.com.
C: Yao Ming—as always he'll be bringing up the center position with his usual high number of votes.
PF: Tim Duncan—It should be him as he's leading in votes as of right now for the position and he deserves it for being able to keep the Spurs alive with all of their injuries and step up his own production.
SF: Carmelo Anthony—He's the leading vote getter at the SF position and he's on a very solid team with solid stats for himself.
SG: Kobe Bryant—He'll easily get this, no need to explain why.
PG: Chris Paul—He leads in votes and people really recognize how good he is.
If this starting lineup is correct it will be the same starters as last year except with Chris Paul instead of Allen Iverson
Reserves:
Amare Stoudemire—He's not seeming as dominant as last year, but he's still getting things done.
Dirk Nowitzki—Dirk's putting up great numbers for the not-as-great-as-last-year Mavs. But they have been stronger as of late.
Shaquille O'Neal—The Big Diesel didn't make it last year, but he's proved so far this season that he's still a dominant player. Plus All-Star weekend just seems more complete with Shaq there, pulling Shaq-antics.
Brandon Roy—He's been playing incredibly well, especially as of late, and has the young blazers starting a tough stretch with a good record.
Chauncey Billups—This back up point guard position could be a hard pick, but Chauncey has done so much for the Nuggets so far this season, and helped them to pull off a strong record for the first part of the season.
Tony Parker—In the time that he has been on the court, he's really made the most of it this season. He has looked great. This would make the team a little point guard heavy, but aw well.
Pau Gasol—Pau has consistently played well for the super strong Lakers team. I think he deserves a spot.
ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN:
Steve Nash—He hasn't played as well as in the past for the Suns, who also aren't faring as well. Still a premier point guard, but I think Chauncey and Tony have shown a little more so far this season.
Carlos Boozer/Deron Williams—Both have missed a lot of time so far and a lot of their records could be attributed to Utah's strong bench stepping up. This decision could also be me getting back at the both of them seeing as I had both on my fantasy team, and the injury of both of them makes me angry.
Rudy Gay/O.J. Mayo—These two have played really strong for this struggling Memphis team. Although Memphis is in the bottom half of the western teams, they are the best of the worst. They've turned it up in the last 10 games, getting five of their nine total wins so far. Either one of them would be a longshot, but they deserve some recognition.
Jason Terry—He's played great for the Mavs. He's consistently been the second best player to Dirk this year for the Mavs.
These are the people that I think are most likely to make the All-Star team. Hopefully I didn't forget anybody lol.
