Notre Dame vs. Stanford: TV Schedule, Live Stream, Radio, Game Time and More

Eric BallNov 21, 2011

One of college football’s greatest rivalries is renewed when No. 22 Notre Dame makes the cross-country flight to the West Coast to take on the No. 6-ranked Stanford Cardinal.

Stanford is 21-3 at home over the last four years (88 percent) which is the best four-year stretch in school history. Winning 30 games in a three-year span is also a school best.

On the other hand, Notre Dame has won seven of the last 10 meetings between the two and currently riding a four game winning streak.

Last year these two teams did not belong on the same field together. Luck threw two picks yet the Cardinal still won 37-14.

Stanford has the fourth-ranked offense in the country and an underrated defense that is averaging under 21 points per game.

Every sign in the world points to a Stanford cover until you notice the following trends:

Fighting Irish are 5-1 ATS in their last six meetings in Palo Alto.

Fighting Irish are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings.

Road team is 4-1 ATS in their last five meetings.

Key Storyline

Can the Irish stop the Stanford running attack?

Despite all of the Luck love, the Cardinal are actually a running team, led by junior Stepfan Taylor. With 1,036 rushing yards, he has surpassed the 1K total for the second consecutive year.

What makes it even more impressive is that Stanford has a three-man rotation at the position that keeps everyone fresh well into the fourth quarter.

The Cardinal have to keep an eye on WR Michael Floyd at all times. The senior has registered 1,014 yards and seven TDs this season and will be the most explosive player on the field.

Notre Dame Injuries

WR Theo Riddick - Probable (Hamstring)

WR Daniel Smith - Questionable (Leg)

LS Jordon Cowart - Questionable (Hand)

Stanford Injuries

DB Wayne Lyons - OUT for season (Foot)

TE Zach Ertz - Questionable (Knee)

Prediction

Notre Dame is certainly an improved team since their horrific 0-2 start. They have won eight of nine and haven’t allowed more than 21 points in a month. The offense, led by QB Tommy Rees, is still too inconsistent, and his 11 interceptions certainly don’t help.

The Cardinal efficiency has been remarkable this season. Stanford is 61-of-62 in the red zone (48 touchdowns) and 11-of-12 on fourth down.

This team is not going to let Luck leave Stanford Stadium for good with a loss.
