The Cleveland Cavaliers Haven't Beaten Anyone Yet

Ari HoringDec 19, 2008

As I was watching the Cleveland Cavaliers dominate the Denver Nuggets this past Friday night, I started wondering who the Cavaliers have actually beaten this year.

I thought about it and I couldn't even think of one big win they’ve had this year.

After looking at their schedule so far, I noticed that there biggest wins have come against the Denver Nuggets twice, the Utah Jazz without Deron Williams, the Atlanta Hawks who they lost to last week, and the Dallas Mavericks.

The problem is that none of those wins are really that meaningful because none of those teams are true contenders. The only real championship contenders so far this year are Houston, L.A , Boston, San Antonio, and New Orleans.

Even with how good the Nuggets, Hawks, and the banged up Jazz have been playing, not many people would actually consider them championship contenders.

Against the elite contenders this year, the Cavaliers are 0-2 with losses against New Orleans and Boston.

In fact, against teams with an above .500 record, they are only 6-4 and that includes wins against New Jersey and the Jazz without D-Will.

The Cavaliers schedule has been so easy so far that 16 of their 22 wins have come against teams with below .500 records.

Because of the Cavs 22-4 record so far, too many people have been jumping on their bandwagon and declaring them contenders too early.

As good as LeBron James and the Cavs are, their roster isn’t quite good enough to compete with the real contenders.

Houston, LA, Boston, New Orleans, San Antonio all have multiple All-Star caliber players on their teams while the Cavs only have LeBron.

No player has ever been able to win a championship by themselves and what is suddenly making people think LeBron is going to be able to?

The Cavs schedule has been very easy so far and until they beat any one of the elite teams. I’m not going to count them as true contenders yet.
