BCS Rankings: Alabama Crimson Tide Favored To Win BCS National Championship
The Alabama Crimson Tide have been established as the clear betting favorites to walk away with the 2012 BCS National Championship after the college football landscape was changed with numerous upsets in Week 12.
LSU sits atop the current BCS standings and will face a stiff test in hosting the No. 3 Arkansas Razorbacks Friday afternoon inside Tigers Stadium.
The Southeastern Conference will definitely dominate the national airwaves with three teams occupying the top three spots.
Let's take a closer look at the betting odds for this wide-open race to be crowned this year's champion.
Boise State Broncos
1 of 7The Boise State Broncos will have a difficult time moving up from the No. 7 spot in the BCS standings, hosting the Wyoming Cowboys and New Mexico Lobos the final two weeks.
Gaining an at-large bid is certainly the program's focus at this point in time.
Senior Kellen Moore will never get a chance to play in the big one, which has to be disappointing after starting off the season with a 35-21 win over the Georgia Bulldogs as three-point neutral-site favorites inside the Georgia Dome.
Odds: +8,000
Stanford Cardinal
2 of 7The Stanford Cardinal barely survived their rivalry game against the California Golden Bears and weren't exactly helped by the USC Trojans handing the Oregon Ducks a loss in Week 12.
Junior quarterback Andrew Luck has thrown for 2,952 yards and will likely be the betting favorite to walk away with the Heisman Trophy.
Luck is likely to have just one more chance to impress the voters, hosting the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a nationally-televised event.
Stanford has an outside shot of reaching the Pac-12 championship game, but will need Oregon to lose its Civil War showdown with Oregon State.
Odds: +3,000
Virginia Tech Hokies
3 of 7The Virginia Tech Hokies landed in the No. 5 spot in the BCS standings and I hope the teams above them win out, as the Atlantic Coast Conference doesn't deserve to have a representative in the national title discussion.
Odds: +2,000
Oklahoma State Cowboys
4 of 7The Oklahoma State Cowboys dropped two spots in the BCS standings after suffering a 37-31 overtime loss to the Iowa State Cyclones as 26.5-point road favorites.
Quarterback Brandon Weeden may have also lost his chance at winning the Heisman Trophy, throwing for 476 yards and three touchdowns, but also tossing three interceptions.
The Cowboys will be rooting against the Southeastern Conference from here on out.
Odds: +800
Arkansas Razorbacks
5 of 7The Arkansas Razorbacks deserve a shot at the national title if they manage to win out, which is a tall mountain to climb given the schedule.
Bettors will also find that Arkansas was the last program to beat an AP No. 1 team on its home field, posting a 50-48 win over the LSU Tigers on Nov. 23, 2007.
Quarterback Tyler Wilson will need to win the game through the air, leading all SEC signal-callers in averaging 292.3 passing yards per game.
It's certainly possible.
Odds: +500
LSU Tigers
6 of 7The LSU Tigers control their own destiny sitting atop the BCS standings and were sent out as two-touchdown home favorites against the Arkansas Razorbacks Friday.
A punishing rushing attack that ranks 20th-nationally leads the offense, while the stop unit is limiting opponents to just 247.9 yards per game, which is second-best in college football.
A major player for obvious reasons.
Odds: +150
Alabama Crimson Tide
7 of 7The Alabama Crimson Tide will finish out their 2011 regular season as 20.5-point road favorites against the Auburn Tigers.
Head coach Nick Saban has to be ecstatic with the recent events in the BCS standings and will likely ride running back Trent Richardson to victory.
The junior is still alive in the Heisman Trophy discussion and has scored 22 touchdowns this season, sitting just two behind the SEC record.
Alabama is the betting favorite due to the amount of action its received in the market up to this point of the 2011 campaign.
Odds: -185
