WWE Survivor Series 2011 Results: 5 Things We Learned from Team Barrett's Win
Believe it or not, Team Barrett's victory over Team Orton was probably one of the most telling matches of the night. With Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes as sole survivors, the team defeated one of the most powerful-looking Survivor Series teams in history.
With this match, not only did we get to see which superstars are on their way to the top, but we also got to see who is on their way out the door as well.
So what did we take away from the longest match of the night? Here are five things that we learned and what they mean going forward from Survivor Series.
WWE Needs to Get Rid of Sin Cara
1 of 5Right after Team Orton eliminated Doplh Ziggler and took control of the match, Sin Cara completely destroyed any and all momentum that the team had going by being unable to make it over the top rope in his attempt to jump out of the ring and attack Hunico.
In case you haven't yet seen this abomination, you can see it here.
OK, so it legitimately looks like he was injured as he was jumping, and that is what caused the botch, but still, with everything that has happened with this guy—the wellness policy suspension, the Sin Cara vs. Sin Cara fued that didn't work out right and now an injury that is reportedly going to keep him out of action for six to nine months?
WWE, cut your losses now.
Dolph Ziggler Is One of WWE's Biggest Assets
2 of 5Survivor Series was the second pay-per-view in a row in which Dolph Ziggler competed in two matches. Sure, at the most recent event, Ziggler didn't have both matches in a row, and no, he didn't last too long in the traditional Survivor Series match. But that doesn't mean that he didn't do twice (or more) the work that many other superstars did on Sunday. His match with John Morrison was well-executed and the perfect way to start the night.
It says a lot for Ziggler that WWE has the confidence in him to put him in two matches on some of their biggest nights of the year. I have heard people compare Ziggler to Shawn Michaels, and while I personally wouldn't go that far just yet in his career, I'm not going to say that he doesn't have the potential to be as great or even greater than Michaels.
I truly hope we get the United States Title off of Ziggler pretty soon so he can make a run at the WWE Championship by the time WrestleMania comes around.
Mason Ryan Will Be a Main Event Monster
3 of 5Again, somebody who didn't necessarily last very long in the match, but what he did in that small time showed us that we have a future main event superstar on our hands.
I'm not claiming that Ryan is going to be World Champion one day, nor am I saying that he has the skills and charisma to become a World Champion. But right now, he's the best WWE has going for a younger, big-man superstar. He's only 29, which is much younger than any other big man in WWE right now.
Though he may be somewhat limited in character and moves, his powerhouse status should be enough to get him in at least a few main events during his career.
Nobody Cares About Jack Swagger Anymore
4 of 5Four people had been eliminated before Jack Swagger was ever tagged in as a legal competitor for Team Barrett.
When I brought up the fact that Swagger had yet to be in the match almost halfway through it, nobody that I was watching it with really seemed to notice or care. This kind of seems like it is the story of Swagger's life right now.
It's too bad for the former World Heavyweight Champion, because he can truly perform in the ring. It's just that his character has gotten stale. Nobody finds his speech impediment funny anymore, he's not arrogant like he used to be and he hasn't been given a solid feud in a long time.
Most of it is not his fault, but Swagger needs something fresh, or else the rest of his WWE career is going to end up like his time in this match—short.
Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett Are Future World Champions
5 of 5With the way that Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett performed on Sunday, I see no reason that these two don't become the next two heels to hold the World Heavyweight Championship.
Mark Henry will eventually drop the World Title, and Wade Barrett (as well as Rhodes if he is removed from the Intercontinental Title picture) will surely be there to snag the top heel spot on SmackDown.
From here, Cody will continue with his Intercontinental Title run, getting more heat as he does, while Barrett can start a feud with Randy Orton. Provided that Orton doesn't end up burying Barrett, it would be the perfect feud to launch Barrett into the main event and allow him to finally get his hands on WWE gold.
