WWE Survivor Series Results: How the Mark Henry/Big Show Feud Was Impacted

Tom ClarkNov 20, 2011

Mark Henry retained the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Survivor Series when he was disqualified in his match against The Big Show.

And, it could not have ended fast enough.

Honestly, this match was a train wreck, from the start, up to the last big spot, and as the crowd chanted “boring,” I have to say,  I agreed with them.

There was a lot of hype around this match, especially considering the way the last one ended, when the ring broke following a second-rope suplex.  It was going to be hard to follow up, no doubt about it.

But, I, for one, really believed that the two would find a way to make this second match as big, and as hard hitting, as the first.  They looked so good the first time out, the fact is, they deserved another one to do even more.

But the match just sort of happened, nothing really special went down.  It was slow-paced, uninteresting and very uneventful.

Of course,  the New York audience is a tough crowd to work in front of.  They are notoriously hard to please, and if they decide you’re not worth their time, then you’re out of luck.  It would take something pretty big to curry their favor.

Something like, I don’t know, a 500-pound elbow drop from the top rope?

That’s right, Big Show went to where no giant has ever gone before and came off the top rope for an Earth shattering elbow drop on the champ.

It was a monster spot, with a huge impact, and yes, it did get a massive pop from the fans.

So, how exactly did this match impact Big Show and Mark Henry’s feud?

On one hand, I would say that perhaps after their poor showing, that there should be no more feud.

Maybe it’s time to move on, to let it rest and do something different for each man.

But, that’s likely not happening, mostly because of the way this match ended.

Though Show walked away with a win, he walked away empty-handed.  He did however, gain some measure of revenge, when he knocked out Mark Henry then slammed his leg through a steel chair.

But, it did feel as if things are left undone between these two.  The question is, if that’s the case, then what happens now?

I believe that the one x-factor in this feud is Daniel Bryan, the current SmackDown Money in the Bank winner.

Henry has been terrorizing Bryan for a few weeks now, viciously attacking him and leaving him for dead. Bryan has been sucked into this storyline, and it could very well be just for the sake of drama.

After all, the Money in the Bank winner has consistently cashed in his title shot unannounced, shocking the crowd and making headlines the next day.  Many fans expect the same from Daniel Bryan.

Yes, he claims that he’s cashing in next year at WrestleMania 28, but this is WWE, and no matter what you’re told, or what you see, you simply cannot believe it.  Pro wrestling is a work, and we are getting worked all the time.

If Bryan were to have ran down to the ring after Show laid out Henry, like the fans wanted, then we could very well be looking at a new World Champion.  But, is that going to happen at all, despite when or where?

Bryan could tip the scales in favor of either man, as this feud progresses.  If he does indeed continue to play a role, it’s anybody’s guess as to how this will all end up.

The fact is, Show and Henry had an off night.  It happens.  If they are to have a third match, it should be better, and each man will likely bring his A-game.  Both of these Superstars have worked too hard to let this big-time feud end on such a down note.
