BCS Rankings: Houston and Teams That Got Bamboozled in Latest Standings
Thugs aren’t the only ones with hit lists.
The BCS targets the postseason dreams of teams each season to kill off. The computers' victims differ from week to week. In late November, the following squads are running out of time to change the mind of the judge, jury and executioner:
3. Houston
The Houston Cougars have won every single game they’ve played. In other words, they’re perfect.
Instead of being ranked No. 2, though, as one of the two remaining undefeated teams in the nation, Houston is slotted at No. 8. The Cougars fall behind six imperfect squads in the standings including Boise State who’s played a soft schedule, the exact reason why Houston is ranked so low.
Case Keenum and company boast the best offense in the entire country. Houston vs. LSU would be the ultimate offense against defense showdown. Forget LSU-Alabama again.
2. Oregon
The BCS hated Oregon when they won. Instead of showing them sympathy when the Ducks were upset, the computers instead chose to kick them when they’re down.
No. 10 Oregon, at 9-2, is ranked one spot behind the 8-2 Oklahoma Sooners. While Oregon currently holds one more victory than Oklahoma, it isn’t about that. The opponents that the Ducks lost to are far better than the schools that upset the Sooners.
Oregon lost to now No.1 LSU by 13 in week one along with now No. 10 USC by just three points last week. Unranked Texas Tech defeated Oklahoma by three earlier in the season while Baylor took them out by seven this past Saturday. Oregon’s best win also came against Stanford compared to Oklahoma’s which occurred against Kansas State.
1. Stanford
Stanford, a school full of brainiacs, got cheated by the computers.
While enjoying that irony, explain to me how in the world Virginia Tech is ranked ahead of the Cardinal. The No. 5 Hokies are one spot ahead of Stanford in the standings which is downright baffling.
A now No. 17 Clemson team beat down VT while Stanford’s only loss came against a powerful Oregon club. Stanford also has wins against ranked opponents in now No. 10 USC and then No. 25 Washington. The lone ranked team that the Hokies beat is now No. 23 Georgia Tech.
