UFC 139 Results: 5 Fights for Shogun Rua To Get Back on Track
Pride legend Mauricio "Shogun" Rua may be down, but he's not out.
At 29 years of age, there is still much for him to do in MMA.
After all, light heavyweight isn't exactly the thickest division in the UFC. Also, many of the top competitors are very close to each other skill-wise, making the division's top five (or even top 10) constantly shuffle.
So who should "Shogun" fight next in his storied career? Read and find out.
Brandon Vera
1 of 5Brandon Vera may not be in Rua's league as far as being a quality opponent, but it would definitely be a fan-friendly fight, and it would immediately make (casual) fans believe that Rua is a top contender again.
Anthony Perosh
2 of 5Anthony Perosh is coming off a big win against Cyrille Diabate.
Like with Brandon Vera, Perosh wouldn't be expected to beat Rua. The Australian would just be expected to lose and in doing so provide "Shogun" with a tune-up fight and some clips for his illustrious highlight reel.
Ryan Bader
3 of 5Putting Ryan Bader against Rua would be a fantastic test for both men and it would also be an intriguing fight.
The fight would determine if Bader could truly beat a top competitor, not just the Jason Brilz and Keith Jardines of the world, and it would also show just how much Rua has left in the tank.
Jon Jones (If He Loses to Lyoto Machida)
4 of 5UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones humiliated Rua and many nostalgic Pride fans would like to see the two fighters meet again.
If Jones loses to Lyoto Machida at UFC 140, then this rematch should be arranged.
Stephan Bonnar
5 of 5Who better for Rua to fight than the resurgent Stephan Bonnar.
Bonnar has proven against Kyle Kingsbury that he's more than just a brawler and is actually quite a competent grappler.
This fight would give Rua a good test and could be part of a double main event a pay-per-view or a minor television card.
