If He Ain't Broke Don't Fix Him: Leave John Cena Alone!
For the longest time, people have speculated whether or not John Cena will eventually become a heel. Now with the Survivor Series kicking things into high gear tonight, and Cena teaming with The Rock, eventually facing him at WrestleMania, it's becoming more of a question of when rather than if.
It's expected that not only will he become a heel at Rock's expense, he will do so as a member and leader of the new NWO. If that does happen, I will agree that, if done the right way, the WWE could definitely have a number of great story lines to work with taking us into WrestleMania and beyond. In fact, if done right, the next few years may see things turn around for the business.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
However, I disagree about John Cena's place in the grand scheme of things. He should not turn heel. To the contrary, he should remain a face.
I may be one of the few people left who think Cena should not become a heel or join a new version of the NWO. That's the easy way out for the character. He actually deserves better. He deserves to be treated like the champion he is and his character's future should be given real thought.
The WWE has invested so much into him, the best they can possibly come up with his a heel turn? Making him a heel has possibilities, but in the end I feel somehow it won't be handled right.
If what we have seen over the last few months alone is any indication, Cena becoming a heel will fail, making things worse. John Cena doesn't need that.
Good or bad, John Cena has always been there to weather the jeers and boos, even though I'm sure he has been presented with more lucrative opportunities. He is passionate about what he does and it shows. Part of that passion comes from giving us what we want which is a show.
John Cena has had an amazing career throughout his tenure with the WWE. He has emerged as the face of the company as well as the face of the business.
I don't think anyone could have guessed that he would have become such a phenomenon. He has and that should be respected. Turning him heel says that we've given up on him and have lost interest.
That's not good enough for a talent like this.
He has given us classic matches and has proven that he can hang with some of the biggest names of the business, like Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Edge and Batista. I don't know about you, but he certainly did not seem overmatched or out of his league when he faced these superstars. He belonged in there with them. If nothing else he should be accorded the same respect that they are entitled to.
Instead he has faced nothing but criticism; he can't wrestle, his gimmick has grown stale, the fact that he constantly gets booed because it's the "in" thing to do. Come on.
Through hard work and perseverance, he has become the Hulk Hogan of our times, which may or may not be a good thing. I'll go so far as to say he has worked harder than Hogan, because of the changing times. Hogan at one point was universally loved. Cena isn't afforded that luxury.
He has worked tirelessly to get to where he is at, not only as a performer, but outside the ring working with different charitable groups.
Who knows what kind of sacrifices he has made to get to where he is.
He has always been true to his credo of hustle loyalty and respect, just like Hulk Hogan with his credo of saying your prayers training and eating your vitamins. He is the hero and champion that kids need. He respects them and they in turn respect him. He is their hero.
I respect him and I'm a grown man. I respect him because of what he stands for and because he is a throwback to a simpler time, when things were black and white and we didn't have to question our own morality after a decision was made. A time when we knew the difference between what a good guy was and what a bad guy was.
What's so wrong with that? Hell, he's my hero too!
Besides, if Cena goes rogue, who could possibly fill his shoes? I would say The Rock, but he needs to show me more of a commitment than what he has so far. He is already committed to doing a couple of films that will certainly take him away from us at some point next year. I would say CM Punk, but he is more of an anti-hero with a different agenda. He is no John Cena. Neither is Randy Orton, who seems like he's always brooding.
The company has invested so much in Cena they never took the time to develop a roster of talent that could step in or step it up just in case. That's nobody's fault, but their own. They did the same thing with Hulk Hogan, too. The difference then was that there a bunch of guys who could fill the void whenever he took time off.
John Cena just needs a break; he should take time away from the lime light for awhile, probably after WrestleMania. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and this is no exception.
He should be brought back when the time is right and the proper story line is put together. He doesn't always need to be champion to fight the good fight. He dosen't always need to win every battle either.
He doesn't need to be a heel to be interesting, just interesting story lines to be a part of and new challenges to face.
Either way, leave the man alone, he's doing a great job and will continue to do so considering. Besides are we really as ready for a heel John Cena as we think we are?
