BCS Rankings Week 13: Projecting the Top 25

T.J. McaloonNov 20, 2011

After the top three of the new BCS Standings, you could throw a dart at a wall of 22 other teams on Post-it notes to fill out the remainder of the standings.

From what we saw in the four upsets in the top 10 last night, anything that you think you know about the BCS Standings was destroyed. These upsets proved that every week the landscape of the potential BCS bowl games can be rearranged.

Now as we await the next BCS Standings we know the top three will be teams from the SEC West Division. No. 1 will be LSU, No. 2 will be Alabama and No. 3 will be Arkansas.

After that it’s like Bingo balls at popping up to be called. You know that these defeated teams will fall into place on the new BCS Standings, but you don’t know when they’re going to get called.

Who knows where former top 5 teams—No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 4 Oregon and No. 5 Oklahoma—will end up. Oklahoma State's loss was the closest among the three teams this week. Even though Oklahoma and Oregon lost in last-second games, Oklahoma State’s loss was in overtime. Plus their loss was the first of their year.

So where will Oklahoma State drop as a one-loss team? Should they drop past a one-loss Stanford team that had to hold on in their game against Cal? Should a team like Boise State or Houston shoot past Oklahoma State in the chase for the BCS National Title?

Now we have spent a lot of time on the top 10 of the BCS. The teams that rank 11-25 are just as important to the standings as the Top 10. If there is one thing that you should have learned, it's that no matter what spot you’re at, you still have a great chance at making a BCS bowl game.

This season still has two more weeks. Next week the SEC stranglehold atop of the BCS standings could change, as LSU and Arkansas meet, along with Alabama vs. Auburn.

By this time next week, our No. 1 and No. 2 teams could very well be Arkansas and Virginia Tech.

BCS chaos has just started to wash over us. We still have two more weeks for even more chaos to hit this college football season.
