Is Teixeira Repeating A-Rod Fiasco?
With the Red Sox dropping out of the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes there is only one competitive team still trying to acquire the first baseman.
The Angels have company though, the Orioles and the Nationals have both shown a strong desire for 28-year-old slugger. Of those teams the Nationals are showing the least concern for dollars.
If they are successful and nab the prized free agent it wouldn’t really do much for their team. One player won’t do much for an offense that was 28th in baseball last year and will do nothing for their pitching staff that was 24th in MLB.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
If he follows his agent Scott Boras’ advice and follows the almighty dollar to Washington Teixeira is certain to have at least a couple of Octobers off.
The question is, how much of that can he take? How long before he asks to be traded to Boston, Los Angeles or the Bronx?
If he does end up with the Nats will he have an opt-out clause?
What about the Nationals, how long until they rue the day they signed one out of 25 players for what will be a huge percentage of their payroll? Like Joel Sherman said in his blog today:
"“The Nats would be so much better off using this kind of money to assure that they will sign the first overall pick in next year’s draft, beefing up their scouting all over the planet, and signing a few lower-end free agents to help get through the year with a higher level of competence. Teixeira is the kind of investment you make as a finishing piece to winning. Instead, by the time Washington would be ready to win, Teixeira likely will be in his thirties, out of his prime and starting a production slide.”
"
Boras is doing himself and his clients a disservice if he hasn’t learned a thing in the past eight years as he’s shopped Alex Rodriguez around.
