Wisconsin vs. Illinois: 5 Halftime Adjustments the Badgers Should Make
What a game so far, as the No. 17 Wisconsin Badgers take on the Illinois Fighting Illini in Champaign.
The Badgers are looking to continue their winning streak and keep their hopes alive for a B1G championship.
Can Wisconsin close out the Illini and move a step closer to a division title?
We should be in for a great finish, but here are five halftime adjustments the Badgers should make if they want to win this game.
How About Some Run Defense?
Perhaps the most important defensive key in the second half will be stepping up the rush D. Illinois' four straight losses have come because they were unable to create on the ground.
The Illini have easily been able to get to the outside and pick up big gains in the first half. Wisconsin needs to control the perimeter and shut down their rushing attack if they want any chance of coming back.
Make the First Tackle
The Badgers need to focus on making the first tackle in the second half. Expect the Illini to run a number of sweeps and bubble screens designed for big yards after the catch and Wisconsin must wrap up and prevent the big play as the game winds down.
Eliminate Stupid Mistakes
The Badgers need to cut out their stupid mistakes. They have had a number of untimely penalties, as well as a fumble deep in Illini territory.
Wisconsin must clean up their play in the second half because the Illini look ready to capitalize on every Badger miscue.
Ground and Pound
The Badgers need to keep riding their running game in the second half. If their O-line can continue to get a good push with the guards getting into the second level of Illinois' D, look for the Badgers and RB Montee Ball to have a big second half on the ground.
Get After the QB
Illinois QB Nathan Scheelhaase has had his way with the Badgers in the first half. Wisconsin must bring heavy pressure for the remainder of the game and force the young QB into bad throws.
