WWE Breaking News: Chris Jericho Not Returning Anytime Soon (Video Interview)

Tom Urtz Jr.Nov 18, 2011

TheWrestledope caught up with Chris Jericho backstage before a Fozzy concert overseas.

When asked about a poll on the site involving Jericho in a dream match pitting him against CM Punk, Jericho responded with pessimism:

"

For me to go back to WWE, it would have to interest me personally, whether it be a match vs. CM Punk, the Rock or Funaki. ...

As much as people hate to hear it, I’m sorry but I have no plan to go back to WWE at this time.

Later in the interview, he explained how WWE was a dominating force and it wasn’t like the old days where there were two companies that could outspend the other to compete. He even stated Dixie Carter would work for WWE if she was given an opportunity.

He also backhandedly dissed TNA by saying it will always be second, and anyone who says otherwise will be saying it as a form of bravado.

The news comes as a blow to WWE fans, as many wanted to see the return of Chris Jericho. This could be a work, though, as Jericho has been known to do, and by "at this time" he could mean November and December of 2011.

Maybe in February of 2012 his schedule could become wide open once again. In case you don’t think Punk vs. Jericho would be a good match, there are a few reasons why people would pay mega bucks to see them.

Here are some refreshers from previous articles. The bolded blurbs are a summary taken from my article for a Jericho and Punk main event match

Both are Mic Specialists

When thinking about CM Punk and his shoot promos on Monday Night Raw, it reminds me of times in WCW where Chris Jericho was given roughly about a minute to speak his piece.

In his documentary that can be streamed instantly on Netflix, Jericho goes through explaining on how he wanted to diversify himself; he wanted to incorporate all the wrestling he learned from overseas and polish it off with good mic skills.

Jericho would accomplish this by asking Eric Bischoff for a promo. This would consist of Jericho maybe saying a one liner or two before his opponent came down to the ring.

I can only image the magic and hoopla both men could generate for a WrestleMania match.

Both Have a Similar Style

Looking at CM Punk, I see some major similarities. When Punk debuted, his signature move was the Anaconda Vice, a technical move.

Jericho had the Walls of Jericho.

Punk would continue to evolve, and he would use his straight edge gimmick to prove how he was so much better than everyone else.

Jericho did this when feuding with Dean Malenko by saying he was the man of 1,004 holds. He had four more, so he was better. It was this swagger and cockiness about Jericho that made him likable.

Both Have Utilized Twitter to Build Feud

This moves on to the prospective main event of Y2J Chris Jericho vs CM Punk. Both men are very similar in style and makeup. As I said earlier, Chris Jericho always proclaimed himself as the absolute best.

He even mentioned this on Twitter when he said that Punk was stealing his gimmick.

Dirt sheets and the rumor mill were abuzz, and everyone assumed that this was apart of selling a storyline.
