WWE Survivor Series 2011: Why The Rock's Return Will Fail
I’d like to believe that The Rock will move the masses to come back to WWE, but that doesn’t seem to be his intention. While many love the Great One, make no mistake that this isn’t The Rock giving back, this is simply The Rock taking.
Now, before the hate comments fly in, be clear that I understand that the WWE is using Dwayne Johnson just as much as he is using them, but in the end it will only benefit The Rock.
The WWE has hoped that The People’s Champ coming back home would spark the old fans who have forgotten about the WWE and encourage them to tune in again and rekindle the flame, but that’s an unlikely scenario.

Truthfully, the WWE hasn’t built the kind of product around The Rock that will allow it to succeed. The point was to have The Rock come back and for the WWE faithful to be impressed by the WWE as a whole. But with a weak match scheduled between CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio and another match between Triple H and Kevin Nash that contains no forwarded storyline, at the end of the day the fans will have tuned in to see The Rock only to tune back out until the WrestleMania push.
And let’s not be surprised if that’s just fine with Johnson. The more and more he appears on TV, the more and more it seems like he’s content to come in, plug his social media outlets and move on.
While I’m sure there may be more to it than that, to say that his television appearances are becoming lackluster is an understatement. He’s been disappointing to say the least. His promo on RAW last Monday was a perfect example. He seemed more bent on plugging his Twitter than cutting an entertaining promo.
When he leaves Survivor Series so will his legions of fans who only tuned in to see him in the first place.
