WWE Survivor Series 2011: CM Punk's Stock Will Skyrocket with a Win

T.J. McaloonNov 18, 2011

The WWE has two important decisions to make at Survivor Series on Sunday that will set their company into a level it hasn’t seen since the “Attitude Era.”

No, not to put Zack Ryder into the United States title match against Dolph Ziggler and John Morrison.

They have to have John Cena double cross The Rock in their tag team match against The Miz and R-Truth. And they have to put the WWE title back on CM Punk.

Now, I do not mean any offense to the current WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio. But he has not done anything for the WWE since gaining the belt at Hell in a Cell. His promo work has been boring, his matches have been lack luster and he has done nothing to draw people into this pay-per-view.

The lack of championship appeal for Del Rio has hurt Punk’s chase for him to regain the title. It’s been Punk who has carried this feud leading into Survivor Series. Punk has been the driving force building heat towards the match. And the WWE would be smart to let Punk carry the title into their biggest stretch of pay-per-views.

Let’s say Punk leaves Madison Square Garden on Sunday with the WWE title. The question is, where does he go from here?

Glad you asked, because the WWE has a lot of great path for Punk to take the WWE championship to.

First, let’s say that Cena does turn on Rock at Survivor Series. It's the start of heel Cena that we in the internet wrestling community have been dying to see.

With Survivor Series done, and Rock back in Hollywood, Cena will need someone to feud with. In comes a face Punk against heel Cena to carry us through December’s Tables Ladders and Chairs and Royal Rumble pay-per-view main events.

Punk and Cena’s summer feud was gold for the company, as their epic Money in the Bank pay-per-view drew big numbers. Now, with a new twist on their storyline (heel Cena, face Punk), it gives a fresh angle.

WWE can keep the belt on Punk throughout this stretch of pay-per-views, moving Punk away from Cena post-Royal Rumble.

But where will Punk go after Cena then? Who could he face heading into the biggest show of the year, WrestleMania XXVIII?

Punk heads into ‘Mania against the winner of the Royal Rumble, a returning Chris Jericho.

Now, before you can race down to the comment section to tell that Jericho has said in a number of interviews that he is not coming back to the WWE, stop, I know he has said that.

Jericho is a king of kayfabe and has been working a feud with Punk through Twitter. A feud with Jericho heading into the biggest show of the career will be the biggest mark of Punk’s wrestling career.

A win for Punk on Sunday will start to send his stock on an upward trend that reaches its climax at WrestleMania XXVIII.
