NFL Power Rankings: Predicting What Will Change After Week 11

John RozumNov 18, 2011

After the Jets-Broncos game, you can just get the sense that Week 11 is going to be one awkwardly exciting week.

And with changes in mind (ironically all in the AFC), here are a few things we'll see differently heading into Week 12.

Bills Fall Completely Out of AFC Playoff Race

This week the Buffalo Bills will lose on the road against Miami and be 5-5 heading into Week 12. Being that there's really no shot then at winning the AFC East over New England, you would think that the Wild Card is still possible.

Well, this is not the case as Buffalo does not have the tiebreaker over Cincinnati, and the Bengals are currently the No. 6 seed in the AFC.

Now, being that it is the AFC, the Bills will technically still be alive. However, this will have been their third straight loss, and the division rival Jets will have moved ahead of them as well.

With so much to make up in so little time, the 2011 season is ending fast in Buffalo.

Ravens Move To the Top of the AFC

In Week 11 the Ravens host AFC North rival Cincinnati in a big matchup with divisional and conference position implications. That said, Baltimore will get the win and move up to 7-3 along with Pittsburgh, Houston and New England.

However, because of their season sweep of the Steelers and owning the tiebreaker over Houston, the Ravens bounce up to the top of the AFC pedestal. Now will that last? Who knows, because based on how 2011 has gone thus far, the Ravens are capable of losing to anyone before all the smoke clears.

Fortunately for Baltimore though, they get two games against Cleveland as well as one game against San Diego and Indianapolis. So even though there's a good chance the 49ers beat them, the Ravens will finish no worse than 11-5.

AFC West Race Between Oakland and Denver

The Thursday-night win over the New York Jets was arguably the biggest win for Denver in recent memory. Not since 2005 have the Broncos felt this kind of surge heading into the season's final weeks, and they're now second in the AFC West.

To that end, what's shocking is that Denver began 1-4 but is now 5-5, and if Oakland drops to the Vikings on Sunday, the Broncos are in first place as well as in control of their own destiny.

But don't expect the Raiders to lose as they're also hitting a stride, which pits the rivals against one another for the division race. And since they already played each other (split the season series), one must hope the other slips up at least one more time before Week 17 concludes.

Because let's be honest, neither is going to finish with a record better than 9-7. The AFC West has just been that way since 2006, and it's likely not changing anytime soon. Nonetheless, the race to the postseason will be between Denver and Oakland (Chargers and Chiefs both lose in Week 12 as well), as only one AFC West team will make the playoffs.
