Penn State Scandal: NCAA Will Provide More Scrutiny to Shaken Penn State
Just when you thought there couldn't be anymore eyeballs on the scandal rocking Penn State, the NCAA offers up another pair.
Penn State Live reports NCAA officials will launch their own investigation into the Jerry Sandusky allegations. The letter was from NCAA president Mark Emmert and is in response to the ongoing investigations of Sandusky as well as the charges of perjury on two campus officials.
The letter states the following:
"I am writing to notify you that the NCAA will examine Penn State's exercise of institutional control over its intercollegiate athletics programs, as well as the actions, and inactions, of relevant responsible personnel. We recognize that there are ongoing federal and state investigations and the NCAA does not intend to interfere with those probes.
"
The letter also follows with various questions that the university must answer by December 16th. If there was ever going to be NCAA sanctions against the university, this would be the first step.
That being said, it would be unlikely that the NCAA would give an extreme punishment to the university such as the death penalty for the alleged crimes of one man and a few who did nothing to stop it.
That would go a long way to hurting thousands of students that have done nothing but attempt to represent the institution the best way they can.
It is only shocking that it took the NCAA this long to decide to investigate this matter. They must do their due diligence in getting to the heart of the biggest scandal in college sports.
With police officials and the university already deep into their own investigations, it is doubtful that any secrets of wrongdoing that ever existed will remain in the dark.
A sordid tale that was kept under wraps will finally see the full light of day, and thank goodness for that.
