Landon Collins: Breaking Down the Pros and Cons of His Top Contenders

Edwin WeathersbyNov 18, 2011

Landon Collins is one of the best overall players and prospects in the country, let alone safeties. He's 6'0", 210-pounds and can play both safety spots and outside linebacker.

With his speed, instincts, athleticism, agility, range and tenacity as a hitter, Collins is a wanted man: by every college program in the country.

He was thought to have narrowed it down to two schools, but a third school has come on strong. Let's take a look at the pros and cons of his top contenders.

Texas

1 of 3

Pros:

Collins likes the DB lineage at Texas, as far as getting back end defenders to the NFL. He feels he could come there and become another Longhorn secondary player to be a high draft pick. Another pro for Collins could be he would get to leave the Bayou state and experience what Texas as a community has to offer.

Cons:

He'd be leaving home. Collins is a Bayou state native and he loves the South. Also, he'd be leaving to play in the Big 12, as where he could play in the SEC.

Alabama

2 of 3

Pros:

Collins camped at 'Bama this past summer and told Scout.com that he loved the business-like atmosphere around the program. He said the practices at the camp were of the NFL mold and that's what he wants to prepare for. A chance to compete for championships and play in an NFL style defense are other pluses.

Cons:

Collins has to see if the tight structure at Alabama is a good fit for him. He may see the Tide as the best way to get him to the NFL, but he also has to see about some of the little things that may not fit him. Plus, many people in Louisiana may be upset about him going to a nearby arch rival.

LSU

3 of 3

Pros:

LSU's campus is basically right down the street from where Collins is from. He's from the state, is the best player in the state and has grown up seeing nothing but Tiger football. Also, with LSU's secondary being a strength of the team every year, why not stay home and become a part of that?

Cons:

Collins may feel it's time he spreads his wings and leaves home. He may think it's time he go experience another part of the country somewhere else. Collins may also feel the rigid structure, at say Alabama, will get his mind right and focused for the NFL, as to the loosey-goosey structure at LSU.
