When Will Warriors Fans Say Enough Is Enough? The Answer Is Never

Steven ResnickDec 18, 2008

As a Golden State Warriors fan to say that I'm frustrated is an understatement. It's more like pissed off.

Since 1995 the Warriors have been run by one of the worst owners in sports history. I feel bad for Clippers fans because the only one worse than Cohan is Donald Sterling, but since I'm not a Clippers fan as you can guess this is going to be about the Warriors.

During Cohan's tenure as majority owner yes I say majority owner because in 2005 he sold 20 percent of the team meaning he currently owns 80 percent of the Warriors franchise. There's a list of players that have been brought in and did nothing to help the Warriors franchise.

While there have been players let go, traded, or not resigned that have gone from the Warriors to have successful careers somewhere else.

Let's take a look first at the Warriors who have left.

Gilbert Arenas, Chris Webber, Antawn Jamison, Jason Richardson, Baron Davis, heck even Mike Dunleavy Jr (Did better in Indiana), Avery Johnson, Marc Jackson, Latrel Sprewell, Tim Hardaway, Chris Gatling, and Tom Gugliotta.

Now take a look at the players the Warriors have brought in to replace the talent that left and didn't do much for the Warriors.

Rony Seikaly, Brian Shaw, Mugsy Bogues, Bimbo Coles, B.J. Armstrong, Tony Delk, Jon Barry, Tim Legler, Bobby Sura, Chris Mills, Kevin Willis, Larry Hughes, Jim Jackson, Danny Fortson, Scott Burrell, Melvin Booker, Donald Royal, Felton Spencer, Jason Caffey, Dickey Simpkins, Duane Ferrell, Clarence Weatherspoon, John Starks, Billy Owens, Corie Blount, Bill Curley, Chucky Brown, David Wood, Vinny Del Negro, Randy Livingston, Cedric Henderson, Earl Boykins, Brian Cardinal, Calbert Cheaney, Nick Van Exel, Eduardo Najera, Dale Davis, Rodney White, Nicolas Tskitshvili, and Zarko Cabarkapa.

A lot more players coming in trying to replace the production of the players that are no longer with the Warriors. It's easy to understand why the Warriors since Cohan took over power of the franchise has an average record of 30 wins and 52 losses.

Even more disturbing is the fact that during that time there's been only two winning seasons and that was 2006-2007 and 2007-2008. The 2006-2007 team made the playoffs and the 2007-2008 team which had more wins than the 2006-2007 team did not make the playoffs.

So what does Cohan do along with his team President Robert Rowell they decide it's better to break up the team rather than try to put out the best basketball team possible for the Golden State Warriors.

Meaning that Baron Davis was never going to be resigned by the Warriors no matter how hard Chris Mullin worked on getting a contract that would be acceptable to Davis. Baron would have more than likely stayed with the Warriors if Rowen and Cohan didn't overrule Mullin.

So, the Warriors just got rid of the best player they've had since Latrell Sprewell. Trying to make up for the loss of Davis there was a little interest in signing Elton Brand, but that did not happen because Brand wanted to be closer to home. The Warriors eventually signed Corey Maggette.

Now, Maggette would have been a perfect fit for the Warriors if they were more of a halfcourt type team, but they are a run and gun. I do believe that Maggette who is currently injured with a slightly torn hamstring will be able to find a comfort zone in Don Nelson's system and become less selfish considering that most plays for Maggette for the Clippers were isolation where he took the defender one on one hoping to draw a foul.

Here's a question for NBA fans what team holds the attendance record in the state of California to watch a professional basketball game? The answer is the Golden State Warriors.

Which, is very surprising considering the Lakers teams with Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

The question that should be asked is why are Warriors fans so loyal? Will they finally say enough is enough? The answer is that even throughout all the misery, Warriors fans still have hope.

Hope that one day Chris Cohan is gone from owning the team. Hoping that the Warriors will get an owner who will spend money on the team and keep their core group together. Hoping that one day the Warriors will have a coach that will be able to set up his system and not be fired after a few years.

With that being said even though Warriors fans can't stand Robert Rowell and Chris Cohan we will always have hope that one day there will be better times for the Golden State Warriors organization.
