Manny Pacquiao: Ranking His Last 6 Years in Boxing from Best to Worst

First LastNov 18, 2011

Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KO) is not only considered the best pound-for-pound boxer in the sport, but also the best boxer of the last decade.

Among his accomplishments are winning six word titles in eight divisions and the lineal championship in four different weight classes.

That being said, 2011 has been one of his more disappointing years in his extensive career. Against Shane Mosley and Juan Manuel Marquez, the Filipino icon emerged victorious in both but was less than impressive when compared to his recent bouts of the past couple years.

He has been unbeaten since 2006, and this is how the past six years rank up against each other.

1. 2009 (KO2 Ricky Hatton, TKO12 Miguel Cotto)

1 of 6

Pacquiao was on everyone's list of 2009's best fighter of the year after defeating Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto in dominating fashion.

His second bout after moving up from lightweight to welterweight came against Hatton in May, who he knocked out in the second round with a vicious left hand. It was voted 2009's knockout of the year and was also the last fight of Hatton's career.

He then battled against Puerto Rico's superstar, Miguel Cotto, who was two fights removed since losing for the first time against Antonio Margarito in 2008. Pacquiao stopped him in the last round to win the WBO welterweight title.

2. 2006 (TKO3 Erik Morales, TKO10 Erik Morales, UD12 Oscar Larios)

2 of 6

2007 was Pacquiao's redemption year, as he would beat the only man to defeat him in the last decade in Erik Morales.

He would face Morales twice that year and ended both before the final bell. His first win came in 10 rounds while the second lasted only three.

Pacquiao also faced Oscar Larios in between those fights and won a dominant unanimous decision in the Philippines.

3. 2008 (SD12 Juan Manuel Marquez, TKO9 David Diaz, RTD8 Oscar De La Hoya)

3 of 6

2008 saw Pacquiao getting revenge against Juan Manuel Marquez after their first meeting resulted in a disputed draw four years earlier. It wouldn't be easy, and Pacquiao left with a controversial split-decision, which only resulted because of a single knockdown suffered by Marquez in the third round.

The ascension from super featherweight to welterweight began after that bout, and his next two opponents would be David Diaz and Oscar De La Hoya.

He stopped both before the end of the fight and upset the odds against De La Hoya, who was favored heading into the fight.

4. 2010 (UD12 Antonio Margarito, UD12 Joshua Clottey)

Pacquiao continued his move up in weight to take on Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito in 2010.

Both were considered the largest opponents to date for the Filipino, and it worked against them rather than for them.

The quicker and much more agile Pacquiao out-worked both to win dominant one-sided decisions after 12 rounds.

He also broke most of his CompuBox numbers set in previous bouts in his fight against Margarito.

5. 2007 (UD12 Marco Antonio Barrera, TKO8 Jorge Solis)

5 of 6

In 2007, Pacquiao faced another Mexican rival in Marco Antonio Barrera, as well as undefeated Mexican boxer Jorge Solis.

There is a reason behind calling the 33-year-old "The Mexicutioner," and the results of these bouts are only part of the reason why.

Barrera was able to make it the distance in the rematch, but Solis fell short of that when he got stopped in only eight rounds.

6. 2011 (UD12 Shane Mosley, MD12 Juan Manuel Marquez)

6 of 6

Although Pacquiao has gone unbeaten in 2011, his disappointing outings against Juan Manuel Marquez and Shane Mosley have many second-guessing his spot as the leading pound-for-pound boxer in the sport.

To add to the disappointing results, a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. has yet to be made, and it has most looking past his wins and into the future.

This has been the most forgettable year for him.
