Fantasy Football Week 16 Start 'Em & Sit 'Em

Michael WhooleyDec 18, 2008

Fifteen weeks of football over and done with, and you're still standing. Congrats my friends, but remember, the journey is not done yet. All it takes to throw away all the hard work and effort you put into this fantasy football season is one bad week, so let's make sure that doesn't happen. The Bruno Boys have done our part by posting this Week 16 - Start 'Em & Sit 'Em, now you do yours by reading it.

QUARTERBACKS - START 'EM

Matt Cassel (New England Patriots) vs. Arizona

This offseason, Cassel will sign his name to a hefty contract thanks to an impressive resume compiled since taking over for Tom Brady. While many expected the Pats to crash and burn after losing Brady the first game of the season, Cassel has kept them afloat by throwing for 3,270 yards, 18 TDs, and just 11 INTs, currently keeping them in a tie for the AFC East division lead.

Not only has Cassel helped his NFL team to "W's," he's also contributed to his fair share of fantasy victories this year. In five of his last six games, Cassel has gone for 15 or more fantasy points, including two 400 yard efforts and a four-TD performance.

Cassel is in line for yet another big day as he takes on the Arizona Cardinals, a team that has given up 31 passing TDs on the year. Be sure you reap the benefits as Cassel reaches the 20+ TD mark for the year. Of course, this is all weather permitting.

Matt Schaub (Houston Texans) @ Oakland

The timing of Schaub's return from knee injury could very well have led to two poor performances as it coincided with games against the stout pass defenses of the Green Bay Packers and Tennessee Titans; however, that wasn't the case.

Schaub didn't miss a beat upon his return, continuing the stellar play that had him rising to the elite level of quarterbacks prior to the injury. Throwing for a combined 698 yards and three TDs, while limiting his turnovers to just two, Schaub has amassed a solid 37 fantasy points the last two weeks and should have no problem continuing his hot play against a Raiders' secondary that just gave up four passing TDs to Cassel.

Donovan McNabb (Philadelphia Eagles) @ Washington

Whether Andy Reid meant it as a motivational tool or not, the benching Donovan McNabbreceived during the Eagles' Week 12 loss to the Ravens has led to inspired play from the quarterback in the three weeks since.

At a time when the Eagles have needed him most to keep their playoff hopes alive, McNabb has delivered with 741 passing yards, seven TDs, and just one INT, good for a combined 57 fantasy points over the last three weeks.

Expect McNabb to deliver once more this weekend as the Eagles will take on a lifeless Washington Redskins' team that just made the Cincinnati Bengals look like playoff contenders.

No doubt in the Bruno Boys' mind that McNabb outdoes the nine fantasy points he had against the Redskins earlier this season.

QUARTERBACKS - SIT 'EM

Jason Campbell (Washington Redskins) vs. Philadelphia

Prior to this season, it appeared that Jason Campbell would be able to take that next step as a quarterback and turn himself into a near every week fantasy play, but while the likes of Philip Rivers, Aaron Rodgers, and Jay Cutler continue to progress, Campbell remains stagnant, at best an average fantasy play.

This week, he doesn't even warrant that as he'll be facing an Eagles' defense that held him to his second lowest point total of the season and that currently ranks fourth against the pass. The Redskins' playoffs hopes are done with as should your thoughts of starting Campbell this week.

Tarvaris Jackson (Minnesota Vikings) vs. Atlanta

The four TDs Jackson put up in week 15 against the Cardinals may entice some fantasy owners to utilize him in this match-up with the Atlanta Falcons, a team that ranks 23rd in the league, giving up 223.2 passing yards per game and 17 passing TDs on the year, but we're here to tell you to steer clear.

Remember that there is a reason Jackson was benched earlier in the year, and it wasn't because he was playing good football. Plus, we can't, in our right minds, suggest you start a quarterback in your fantasy championships that hasn't passed for over 200 yards in any of the four games he's played in this year.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (Cincinnati Bengals) @ Cleveland

Fitzpatrick has had some nice games this season, including the 20 point effort he had in week 15, leading the Bengals to a win over the Washington Redskins, but there has been more bad than good.

Fitzpatrick's first meeting with the Browns is a perfect example of the bad as the quarterback threw for just 156 yards, one TD, and turned the ball over four times. Granted that was his first action of the season and he has improved, just not to the point where he's worth fantasy consideration.
