Premier League Transfers: Top 11 Rumours of the Week by Position

Allan JiangNov 18, 2011

You might think, why are there transfer rumours in November?

Well, right now, clubs are assessing potential players they can bring in during the January transfer window to change their fortunes. Hence why you should keep up to date with transfer rumours surrounding your club.

Here are the top 11 rumours of the week categorised by the position of the player.

Goalkeeper: Jack Butland

1 of 11

According to Adrian Kajumba at the Daily Star, Arsenal have their eyes set on Birmingham City's Jack Butland, who plays on loan at Cheltenham Town.

With backup goalkeepers Manuel Almunia and Vito Mannone reportedly allowed to leave in January, Butland's chances of playing slightly increase.

Though what does this mean for reserve goalkeeper Damian Martinez?

Right-Back: Mikael Lustig

2 of 11

According to Andrew Slevison at tribalfootball, Fulham are intersted in Rosenborg's Mikael Lustig.

Aaron Hughes started at right-back for Fulham before the arrival of Zdeněk Grygera, who has been decent. Unfortunately, he'll be out for a few months after rupturing a cruciate ligament.

So, Fulham's interest in Lustig makes sense.

He didn't play so well against England, where Stewart Downing, who has been out of form for Liverpool, had Lustig in sixes and sevens.

Centre-Back: Gary Cahill

3 of 11

According to  Pete South at givemefootball, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur will fight for Bolton Wanderers' Gary Cahill.

Cahill is out of contract in the summer and has been average at best, so it would be logical for Bolton to cash in.

Centre-Back: Bruno Alves

4 of 11

According to talkSPORT, Juventus will rival Liverpool in a bid over Zenit Saint Petersburg's Bruno Alves.

Alves is a strong, commanding centre-back, but surely his arrival would stunt the growth of Sebastián Coates.

I rate Coates as one of the world's best young centre-backs, but whilst Mats Hummels is playing week in, week out, Coates has become a spectator.

Left-Back: Aly Cissokho

5 of 11

According to John Cross at Mirror Football, Liverpool will once again bid for Lyon's Aly Cissokho. In July, Liverpool were interested in Cissokho, but the deal was not completed.

Having watched Cissokho this season, I think he's been mediocre boarding on below average.

Scoring an own goal against Sochaux can be forgiven, but his attacking output hasn't been on show and his defensive capabilities have always been questionable.

If Liverpool are to sign him, the transfer fee must not go over £5 million, because that's how bad he's been playing.

Plus, why spend more on Cissokho when José Enrique has been in such good form. And rather than having the Frenchman as a backup, give Jack Robinson a chance.

Right Winger: Theo Walcott

6 of 11

According to Prarthito Maity at the International Business Times, Chelsea will offer £25 million for Arsenal winger Theo Walcott.

Playing him as right-sided forward in a 4-3-3 will bring a smile to Fernando Torres' face.

Though £25 million is overpriced, but hey, whatever floats Roman Abramovich's boat.

Defensive Midfielder: Bruno

7 of 11

According to Duncan Castles at The National, Sir Alex Ferguson is weighing up the option of going for Villarreal's Bruno.

I like Bruno a lot. Not only is he a safe outlet in retaining and distributing possession, but he is also a wholehearted competitor who has been invaluable to Juan Carlos Garrido's side.

Creative Midfielder: Philippe Coutinho

8 of 11

According to the Metro, Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Inter Milan creative midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

I saw Coutinho during the FIFA U-20 World Cup, and he looked good as he was among the goals.

However, Inter Milan management do not rate him. Then again, they didn't rate Andrea Pirlo, and look what type of player he became.

It would be more beneficial for Coutinho to move to La Liga or the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

Left Winger: Gareth Bale

9 of 11

Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale has expressed joy at being linked with Barcelona:

"

"It's always nice being linked with clubs such as Barcelona - it's great to be linked with a team like that."

"

Unless Barcelona bid something ridiculous, I cannot see Spurs letting Bale go.

There is a lot of risk attached with Bale and specifically his body, which is battered every week by defenders.

However, the prospect of Bale playing for Barcelona as a left-sided forward in a 4-3-3 is eye-catching.

Comment below with what you think.

Forward: Dimitar Berbatov

10 of 11

According to David McDonnell at Mirror Football, big-spending Anzhi Makhachkala will bid for Manchester United outcast Dimitar Berbatov

What Manchester United must do is inflate Berbatov's transfer fee as much as possible.

Forward: Vedad Ibišević

11 of 11

According to Alan Nixon at Mirror Football, Blackburn Rovers will look to sign Hoffenheim forward Vedad Ibišević. Rovers failed to sign Ibišević during the summer.

In the first leg of Euro 2012 qualifiers, Ibišević looked lively when he came on, but he did miss several gilt-edged opportunities, specifically one right in front of goals.
