Week 11 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Calvin Johnson, Greg Jennings and Top WRs

Eric BowmanNov 17, 2011

Wide receivers have been tearing up the stat sheets in 2011, as well as helping a number of fantasy football players ascend to the top of their league.

Since most leagues give you the option to start three, the wide receiver is a crucial position in fantasy football. If one of your players flops, it could be the difference maker against a big rival in your league.

Nobody likes to lose, and it might be even worse when you lose in fantasy football. I know I'm not the only one who gets extremely pumped when my team dominates a family member, friend or co-worker.

With that said, here are the top wide receivers for Week 11. As always, if you have fantasy football questions, feel free to leave a comment and we'll help you out.

Calvin Johnson

Despite the rough showing last week, and being a little banged up, this one is a no-brainer. Johnson may not have found the end zone a week ago, but he was targeted 19 times, which shouldn't come as a surprise.

With little to no run game, the Detroit Lions are forced to air it out more, meaning Johnson has more opportunities for big plays. The Lions take on the Carolina Panthers this Sunday, and Johnson will shine.

Carolina's pass defense ranks 14th in the NFL, but they have no answer for Johnson. The 6'5" wideout will get plenty of looks, and he'll get back to the end zone to please his fantasy owners.

Greg Jennings

The Green Bay Packers' top wideout has had huge games, as well as mediocre ones. Opposing teams scheme to shut Jennings down, which is why Jordy Nelson, James Jones and Jermichael Finley are often times extremely wide open for monster plays.

Jennings and the Packers will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday, and Aaron Rodgers is going to have no problem spreading the ball around.

This means Jennings is in for a solid day, especially since the Buccaneers defense ranks 26th in the league against the pass.

Jennings may not have a ton of yards every week, but he is tied for third in the league with seven touchdown catches. He is Rodgers' favorite target and best option on every play, and he'll get the ball a lot on Sunday.

He may only be 5'9", but he leads the NFL with 1,006 receiving yards and is a fantasy football machine. The New England Patriots will be hosting the sinking Kansas City Chiefs, and Welker will once again dominate the stat sheet.

Welker also leads the NFL with 72 receptions, which is 10 more than second place, plus, he is second in the league in receptions of 20 or more yards.

Even though he hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 6, Welker is still a top fantasy receiver, and he is going to find the end zone on Monday when the Patriots demolish the Chiefs.

Rounding out my top five wide receivers are Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers and Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals. Smith leads the NFL with 19 receptions of 20 or more yards, and he will connect with Cam Newton on the deep pass against the Lions.

Fitzgerald takes on the San Francisco 49ers, who despite having the top run defense, rank 26th in the league against the pass. They will have a hard time stopping Fitzgerald, who is on a mission to carry his team for the rest of the season.

Brandon Marshall comes in at No. 6 for me, and the only reason I mention him in here is because of how close I was to putting him ahead of Fitzgerald. Marshall will have no trouble taking on the Buffalo Bills' putrid pass defense, and in his last five games he's averaging nine targets, six receptions and 85.5 receiving yards.
