Jerry Sandusky Scandal: New Judge Must Have Zero Connections to Penn State
The first smart decision in the Penn State scandal at State College has finally been made.
As more and more details emerge on how buddy-buddy everybody in a position of power is at Penn State, finally the legal system is catching up.
Judge Leslie Dutchcot, who set Jerry Sandusky’s bail at $100,000 unsecured, has been asked to step away from the case according to NBC News reporter Peter Alexander:
There were more than a few skeptics that believed Dutchcot shouldn’t be involved in this case.
She has a previous connection to his Second Mile charity for young boys as a volunteer, even benefiting from it. There was a fundraiser on her behalf that raised over $1,400. So when she declared the $100,000 bond to be unsecured (meaning Sandusky didn’t have to pay a dime to get out of jail as long as he makes his next court appearance), the fire alarm started ringing.
How can you let a man that has been accused of 40 felony counts of molesting children free on bail without having to post any money?
Even drunk guys that get in bar fights have to shell out a couple hundred dollars for their misdemeanor charges.
Now that she’s gone, there needs to be a judge who has absolutely zero ties to the university, and potentially the entire greater central Pennsylvania area. We have all painfully learned how tight-knit the community is. It seems as if every person in some sort of position of power is a good friend with the higher-ups of the university in one way or another.
This culture led to the massive cover-up that is slowly beginning to come out piece by piece.
There needs to be a judge that can say without a doubt he/she has no ties to the Nittany Lions in any capacity. If he/she doesn’t watch college football…even better.
In what is going to be one of the most high-profile legal cases in recent American history, there needs to be a judge that can handle the intense scrutiny of the moment, without falling for any biases or prejudice.
It’s not going to be an easy task, but it’s a decision that is going to have an incredibly strong long-term impact.
