Mbappé's Rollercoaster Season 🎢

For Arsenal, It's Now or Never

Darryll WilsonDec 17, 2008

I remember last season at this time Arsenal were on top of the league and were looking pretty strong. I had genuine hopes from the young guns and, even though they didn't win anything, I wasn't disappointed as I could see the progress they had made.

I believed this season would be it, and I still do. If everything can go wrong in no time, why can't everything go right for a change?

But I guess I'm too optimistic at times. My heart and my brains are in constant conflict with each other, and it's usually my heart that's left disappointed. To be honest, I don't think we are going to win anything this year either and I pray to God I'm wrong.

The season started well with Nasri—new signing "future Zidane"—scoring in his debut. The Hull game was a shocker and from then on it's been a roller-coaster ride for us fans. I can't believe Arsene Wenger's sacking was a topic of discussion for about a month. The man's a genius and he's taken risks, but it's going to take some time for people to understand him. They say God works in strange ways; well, so does Arsene...

The major problem for arsenal has been scoring goals, especially the easy ones. We do have world class strikers in Van Persie, Adebayor and soon Eduardo but we miss too many chances. Vela is amazing but still needs experience while Bendtnar to me is a a world class waster.

Gallas was never a good captain but is a good defender and I guess losing him in January is inevitable. Appointing Cesc Fabregas as the captain was a smart move by Wenger, as I'm sure he's thinking about his future as a Gunner. Theo Walcott was finally starting to shine but, as usual, Mr. Injury who is a regular visitor to the emirates had to come and take him. I still don't know what he's doing with Rosicky!

Somehow, I just don't see the same fire and passion that I used to see in the gunners and moreover the fans. Adebayor of late seems to be treating competitive games as friendly matches. He just seems bored. Bendtner was the reason for failure in the Carling Cup. Every time we score a goal, I just feel an equalizer is unavoidable especially towards the end. And every time "they" score a goal, I wonder if there's going to be that one counter attack by which they finish off the game.

I don't quite know why i'm writing this, and I can't believe I called myself an optimist when I started. I just hope we can turn things around, starting this weekend against table toppers Liverpool.

I'd rather face Liverpool and Man United than the likes of Hull, Fullham and Stoke. These are the teams we need to beat to be champions, and it's about time we got started!
