Penn State Scandal: Judges History with Second Mile Charity Raises Huge Red Flag
And the nightmare continues to get worse.
As if there weren’t enough fishy connections in this entire Penn State scandal, word has now come out that the judge who set Jerry Sandusky’s bail has a previous connection to his Second Mile charity for young boys.
Judge Leslie Dutchcot set Sandusky’s bail at $100,000, but it was unsecured, which means he didn’t have to pay it unless he misses his court date. At the time, the ruling raised more than a few eyebrows considering the man has been accused of 40 felony counts of molesting children.
Now we know why the bail was treated like a slap on the wrist.
Dutchcot has performed charity work for The Second Mile charity, and in return, there was a campaign fundraiser at her home, which raised $1,463 for her campaign.
So, clearly, there is a past relationship between the two, and it’s just the latest example of the close-knit culture that goes on in College Station. Luckily, the legal system agrees, and there has been a new judge assigned to the case according to NBC News reporter Peter Alexander.
This is the first smart decision the legal system has made in this case. There is no way they could have let Dutchot make an unbiased decision in this. She already showed a clear lack of judgment in her soft ruling on bail, and who’s to think she wouldn’t find a way to let Sundusky off lightly if Dutchot was in fact the ruling judge.
It’s a scary thought and luckily one we don’t have to contemplate anymore. Now we all wait for the announcement of the new judge that will be assigned to the case. Let’s hope they don’t have a single connection to College Station, because if there is one thing we’ve learned about this case, seemingly everybody in central Pennsylvania is somehow connected to Penn State in one form or another.
