MLB Trade Rumors: Top Players on the Block This Offseason

Alex KayNov 16, 2011

The current Major League Baseball offseason has very little remaining in terms of solid free agent players.

While there are still a few decent options for teams desperate to fill holes on their roster, I think we are going to start seeing some trades floated around and even accepted as teams try to gear up for the 2012 season.

Let’s take a look at some top targets that could be on the trading block.

New York Yankees v. Chicago Cubs

Gio Gonzalez

Gonzalez is a pitcher that every team seems to be rumored to be interested in.

Ken Rosenthal reported that the Oakland A’s are going to listen to offers for their 26-year-old stud pitcher.

The A’s are trying to move to San Jose, but if that fails, they should be cutting salary left and right, and that means moving their best pitcher to gain some offense.

We’ll see what sort of offers they get, but it should be intriguing.

Chase Headley

Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal believe that the Padres will be attempting to flip Headley this winter.

He will be owed more than $3 million in salary arbitration this coming season, so they should be willing to move him, especially considering they have a new GM and lost 91 games this past season with Headley on the roster.

He has value as a hitter and a fielder, and he is only 27-years-old.

Miguel Montero

Montero is one of the best-hitting catchers in the MLB right now.

The Diamondbacks are trying to lock him up to a long-term deal but keep finding themselves at an impasse.

He could earn up to $6 million this season in arbitration, and the team may need to move him if they can’t agree on a deal to keep him in Arizona for the long haul.
