Tiger Woods: Golf Star Won't Let Steve Williams and Adam Scott Distract Him
Tiger Woods' former caddie Steve Williams has been talking a lot ever since he beat Woods with new partner Adam Scott at the Bridgestone Invitational in August.
In his first tournament with Scott at Bridgestone, shortly after being fired by Woods, Williams said it was the "best week of my life" and "best win I've ever had" after the victory. This was despite winning 13 majors with Woods during his career.
Two weeks ago, Williams used a racial slur directed toward Woods after he was honored at the "Caddie of the Year" event in Shanghai.
Said Williams, via The Telegraph, "My aim was to shove it right up that black a******."
But Woods isn't going to let Williams or Scott distract him headed into the the Presidents Cup on Thursday, even if Williams and Scott are going to be grouped with him.
Coming off a third-place finish at the Australian Open, Woods is playing his best golf of the year since he placed fourth at the Masters.
But, more importantly, he's handled ugly words from Williams with grace after a tumultuous last couple of years.
Said Woods after Williams' racial slur, via the Huffington Post:
""It was a wrong thing to say, something that we both acknowledge. He did apologize. It was hurtful, certainly, but life goes forward.
"Stevie's certainly not a racist. There's no doubt about that. It was a comment that shouldn't have been made and was certainly one that he wished he didn't make."
"
"Life goes forward."
That's something Woods has been trying to prove to himself ever since several alleged mistresses came forward in late 2009 and 2010 and he divorced with Elin Nordegren.
This season has been a nightmare for Woods in what was supposed to be his comeback campaign. He hasn't seemed focused, nor has his game been there with the exception of the Masters.
On top of that, Woods has battled numerous injuries, skipping the U.S. Open and British Open before failing to make the cut at the PGA Championship.
But Tiger appears to be back.
Said Woods after the Austalian Open, via ESPN, "I've just got to keep plugging along. I'm showing some progress."
We all know when Tiger gets on a roll nothing can disrupt his concentration.
